Basically yes, but kinda depends. For me, it's 100% retarded. I live somewhere with a serious winter, so a bike can never be my main mode of transportation. And I suspect the vasy majority of riders in the US also have a car at least, so a bike is just an expensive and very dangerous toy. In the US we also have jeet truckers with fraudulent CDLs, brownoids playing on their phone, methheads, women, and all other kind of drivers that have zero empathy and poor spatial awareness. You'd have to be retarded or desperate to feel alive to get on a motorcycle on American roads.

If you live in a country where 70% of traffic is bikes and scooters < 300ccs, it's different and much less retarded.

if you mean financially, buying anything (brand new) is always retarded because of tax

if you mean anything else, its entirely subjective
give us more to work on for what you consider "retarded", if youre scared you might hurt yourself, thats down mostly to rider skill, so can offset the retardation

>If you live in a country where 70% of traffic is bikes and scooters < 300ccs, it's different and much less retarded.
but anon, those countries are places like india and thailand, where the people have equally just as little sense of spatial awareness and arguabless less empathy

at least in a first world country (if you can consider the UK to still be one) if I get knocked off my bike, and I had my helmet cam on, and I get the persons plate - I may eventually see justice, and my insurance will cover the costs of new bike
Meanwhile in china if you get knocked off, its the cultural norm for the driver to come back and finish you off so they dont have to pay your medical bills

I think the sport chief is cool, but I won't get one. I don't trust polaris not to rug pull everybody that owns one. When that happens, the aftermarket goes with it. I'll probably just get a Harley because of that, and you'll always be able to build whatever engine you want.

Depends where in the US IMO. I spent years dreaming of bikes but not doing it because I was stuck in LA and the thought of being a brand new rider on a beginner-friendly (slow) bike there seemed like suicide. Where I live now is pretty chill though, small PNW city that I can escape in 5-10 minutes and once I'm out of town I'm often the only vehicle in sight, on scenic roads with very few intersections etc. I do struggle some with traffic speeds, just because people like to drive fast on these roads and my bike is a 300 single (that's down on power at 4-7k' and being asked to carry my fat ass), but by and large it's been pretty workable. We do have enough of a winter that there's a definite riding season but when the weather's good there are tons of bikes here as well, way more per capita than in SoCal, and I think that means drivers are a little more aware as well. (Plus it's a 93% white county which I'm sure helps.)

There are cruisers with proper monoshocks now but you still have the posture issue. It's why I love sport tourers with a little forward lean. Your arms and legs take the beating but on smooth roads they're still comfy enough for 14 hour days.

definitely know that feel. Grew up in LA and everybody eventually drifted away, even the ones who were still in the region got too busy with wives, kids, careers, etc. and ended up living at the other end of the county or whatever, which may as well be a different state with the hours of traffic you have to fight through to get there. Only friends that did stick around were pothead burnouts that stopped being any fun to be around. It was a big part of why I finally left too, if I'm gonna be a loser with no social life I may as well at least do it somewhere I actually like, that doesn't make me constantly want to kill myself from stress.

In order to become a great rider you must first ride a shit bike.
>Shitty clutch
Will teach you patience
>Broken starter
Will teach you proper launch control
>Busted shocks
Will teach you to move with the bike
>Under inflated tires
Will teach you to wrangle unstable cornering
>Shitty brakes
Nothing to learn here. Fix them.

After you master these techniques and hop on a good bike, everything everyone else struggles with will feel like a luxury to you. I know it to be true and you cannot change my mind.

Step 1. Verify your brake system is functional and not running off bootleg fluid. If your rear wheel locks up, lemme save you a lifetime of strife: Pull off the secondary master clyinder that's on the front left fork near the caliper. It's on a hinged point.

Inside of it, is a green filter that LOVES to get clogged. Clean it and bleed everything/rebuild kits.

Step 2. Go into both of the master clyinders on your bars and pop off the metal shields and get a super small sub 1mm rod and poke the return port till clear of any intrusions.

Step 3. If you hear your clutch chattering then fear not, it's just your clutch basket. You can fix this by lightly file-ing the surfaces that the clutch plates ride on.
Step 4. Verify your spark plugs are actually torqued properly, super easy for previous owners to fuck this up on a V4.
Step 5. DO NOT USE DOT 3, USE DOT 4 ON THE VFR
Step 6. Install a factory pro shift kit and never look back, objectively goated upgrade.
Step 7. Air likes to get trapped in the banjo bolts on the master clyinders and your slave clyinder so manually pull the slave off and push it with your hand to compress it to get all the air out. There is a very specfic bleeding procedure for VFRs so buy a manual and do it by the book so you don't have any air in the system.

Then enjoy! Those are badass bikes brother
>picrel, this component has confused many and ended many wrenches dreams of a gear driven v4

I was probably honorary if you consider the original tenere was just a modified 83 xt550

Going up to the t7 is surprisingly a similar feeling, at least on the street it feels oddly familiar.
but just moving around my 550 is such a crippling feeling of regret that the pos 700 is insanely heavy by comparison.

Anon with z900rs, you should absolutely go full retard and turbo it. That would be disgusting.

I woke up late af today. Decided I wanted to take the gsxr to the twisties. I should have taken the zx6r, but I need a little more comfort and less pressure on my knee today.

The gsxr 750 really is the perfect bike. If I'm indecisive and can't make up my mind of what bike I want to take, I usually just end up take it because it hits every point just enough without compromising on the others.
>Speed
>Comfort
>Agility

I'm going to have to end up buying a full unpainted fairing kit to get the pieces I need, as they just aren't showing up used anywhere.
Figured there would be more idiots crashing their gixxers once summer hit but I guess not.

The 'Stroms are better road bikes, but much worse off-road. There should be no debate about this between the pot bellied engines, high CoG from the VTwins, and 19" front wheels. The new DE trims at least give them 21" fronts but they're upright touring bikes masquerading as more proper ADVs. Which is perfectly OK, and exactly why I'm buying a 1050 in the future.

I went from a blown out Yoshimura pipe back to the stocker on an XSR700 (only thing that could clear an aftermarket center stand) and the bike runs cooler and the spark plugs look way healthier. I specifically stated tiny Amazon brand generic can to mean that it didn't have nearly enough baffling or muffler packing, and thus the bike would be running noticeably leaner. The ECU has a hard limit on how much fuelling correction it can add with the stock tune, regardless of how much the O2 sensor is begging for.

Even with my dual sport that's made for trail riding, I'm too sketched out at the idea of having something happen when I'm alone in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception to really go anywhere really stupid. On the other hand I definitely think I'd enjoy the better road performance of the Honda.

I bought new simply because I spent months scouring the market and there was fuckall worth buying, a 2 year old used version of my bike would've cost more than I paid OTD after title fees etc. and I only would've saved like $2k getting a clapped out ebay modded 15 year old shitbox. I can definitely confirm that break in absolutely blows though, especially with a bike slow enough that just keeping up with traffic is hard/impossible with the RPM limitation.

ADV bikes are about doing highway miles and handling light off-road, like gravel, dirt roads, or mild ATV trails at worst. Just about any ADV bike can do that easily. I think people worry too much about off-road performance with ADV bikes. It just has to be vaguely capable, the main part is getting a bike that feels good to you.

Well, I ride in a t-shirt in the summer and some winter clothes in the winter.
The wind will cool the blood flowing through your jugular and carotid artery so protect your neck and the bottom of your chin as the cold air will work its way through easily even with a coat and helmet.
Wear a skiing sheisty/balaclava with neck protection under your helmet when its really cold

California, I get by with a very vented textile that has a zip-out cold liner. My "winter gear" is an ugly Puig handlebar mount windshield, cold weather gloves, and always wearing my rain shell. I will ride in anything except pouring fucking rain/fog to commute. A week or two of that is a good excuse for a yearly valve check and pivot point greasing.

Literally the exact moment I first hit dirt on my T7 I got a weird noise/feeling I can only describe as like what you would hear/feel if the entire back of the engine was just loose and could bang up and down on the back mount bolt.
Like I can feel it in my feet pressed into the sides of the engine but I don't think it's actually that.
I think somehow the shock/spring assembly is doing it, it was kind of happening a ton over any bump at lower rpm.
I thought maybe also a weird chain tensioner could be the noise/feeling bit it doesn't have anything like that.

I adjusted the shock damper for more hard because it felt shitty and it did it a lot less.
Maybe the dealer or someone set it full soft?
Does the shock have the ability to hit something when full loose?

if he is actually on a 500cc because of his license, then he's not allowed on highways anyway. The 50cc license limits you to 45 km/h (28 mph) and to be allowed on the Autobahn (at least in Germany) you have to manage at least 61 km/h.

After test-riding & renting numerous bikes, and wasting 11k pre-ordering a bike that brought nothing but disappointment, I came to conclusion:
This is what peak performance looks like.
Light is right. Cheap is right. A bike that you can throw into a ditch without fear (and pull it back out of it on your own) brings joy.
The lack of power just means I can't be on a highway โ€” a place where I don't want to be in the first place.
Time to downgrade.

yes you can get a 125cc with a B196-erweiterung
but you need to be 25 or older and its like 5 sessions, no exam though
and you need to have your B license for a minimum of 5 years
and its only in germany, so you cant go to france with it

lemme give it to you straight: i dont think you want to make a road trip with a 50cc bike

the license situation in the whole european union is built to prevent people from getting a license so they can push through their fully automated communism agenda with no individual transport whatsoever
its ridiculously expensive and you jump through ridiculous hurdles

i hate them so much that im not allowed my law to put it into words

The highway isn't (just) about the highway. Some bits are genuinely interesting like mountain passes, but the real point of riding your bike on the highway is to have a bike with you when you get where you're going, without needing to trailer or rent one.

The public rejected Victory so why consider that a rug pull? The factory hid sales figures long as they could but Polaris built brands in reaction to the great pre-recession Harley famine which of course was ephemeral.

The first Victory were lame Honda styling ripoffs with gearbox issues, while the reaction to their first styling mistake was even worse styling mistakes. However they do sell for disposably cheap and would be fine to wear out then dump.

The aftermarket is what makes HDs worth owning and they're so plentiful used buying one new in 2025 is a waste of money (you get bupkis for "doc fees" and taxes etc). Buy used, enjoy the aftermarket and a very easy motorcycle to own for life. The boomer dieoff is depressing prices which is nice for buyers.
