>dead simple
>dirt cheap
>made so many of them that spares are still plentiful
>exceptionally spacious and comfortable for its size
>clever flexible interior
>nice seats
>full-length glass sunroof
>closed deck engine block

>crank sensor issues (common problem, 10 minutes to replace)
>laggy e-throttle
>not fast even in 16V form

Sure, you might have to play with numbers, buy used, travel or whatever to make it work but realistically the elantra N isn't ever going to be the best option. At the end of the day it's FWD, has riced boyracer aesthetics and is slow. Not trying to make you feel bad about your purchase, however.

The V8 coupe is something very special and worth buying if you have the money, but purchase price is just the start of total cost of ownership. The Elantra has steep depreciation which hurts but despite that it's still much cheaper overall. To some people that much money is a big deal, to others it's nothing.

But if you want to compare used, the elantra can be had for even less since it depreciates so hard. Some people have smaller budget than others and that can be important. The Elantra N as you note is small volume anyway. It's a niche car but pretty good at what it does.

One day when you get your money up you can enjoy a RWD v8 coupe
But if that day is not today then there's nothing wrong with that
All of these types of cars will all be discontinued in the VERY near future anyway due to EVs and hybrids.
There'll be tens of thousands of mustangs (and camaros and challengers) left for you in the future... if you wanted a brand new sporty car with warranty, and this is what you could afford, the elantra N is not a bad choice

Sure, except it's still a FWD ricebox.
>Elantra N as you note is small volume Because people aren't really interested in it, for good reasons. People are going to opt for a ecoboost mustang or step up to the V8. Or another sports car. The elantra n ends up being too expensive for what it is. It becomes this weird autistic contrarian pick for people who don't care they're buying something lesser to not be "meta".

Hey guys, here's my 1997 Mazda B4000. I bought it pretty recently and I've got plans to fix it up and make it alot nicer, there's very little rust on it and the bed is off of a 1993 2wd Ford Ranger, which is why its a stepside bed, which mazda didnt offer for the B4000. Only issue Im working through rn is the right turn signal doesnt work, I think it might be the tilt sensor or something. It literally just doesnt do anything at all when I hit the right turn signal.

Pros
>Fantastic ride quality
>Good suspension.
>V8
>RWD
>Comfy seats
>Huge trunk
>Opening and closing the power trunk with my keyfob is very satisfying
>Gunsight hood ornament
>Lots of chrome
>Dependable
>Cheap repairs
>Seats 6
>Simple dash and controls that still has everything I want.
>Surprisingly fun to throw around a curve thanks to RWD and solid suspension
>Great value for the price as a used car.
Cons
>I've had two power window regulators go out
>Rainwater leaked into the passenger side through a seal under the hood that had to be replaced
>20 MPG
>Not fast. Its not slow either and if you put your foot to her the 280 lb/ft of torque at low revs from the lazy V8 will move you pretty good; but she's a comfy cruiser not a sports sedan so know what you're buying.
>My ass slides around in the comfy seats when I'm hooning around a corner.
Great car, the last of the dinosaurs. Decades of gradual improvements to big American RWD body on frame full size sedans culminated in this car as its final form. They're really a fantastic bargain as a used car too. There's nothing you can get for the price that comes anywhere close to the Town Car's ride quality and comfort.

>simple intake/exhaust upgrade makes it sound 10x better
>super easy to wrench on, lots of aftermarket parts/upgrades available
>6-speed manual swap is common and easy

cons:

>auto tranny is torque-limited in 1st and 2nd

The only other reasonably priced automatic performance car was a Golf R that cost nearly 50 percent more.
It's about 60k AUD for a GTI these days and and 65-70k for a Golf R. An i30n is now 60k which was 40k before.
Anything cheaper was dry clutch DCT bullshit or torsion beam.
I basically didn't want to pay inflated prices.

I've been driving this Park Avenue for 8 years, and what I love about it most is the ergonomics. t takes so little effort to drive that I sometimes wonder about how much thought went into it. About the only thing I hate about it is how long the downshift delay is when putting pedal down to pass. It delivers pretty good thrust, but never promptly enough.

>Cop versions of Crown Vics have a pretty shit ride quality, about equivalent to, say, a typical $80K SUV or crossover. Why do people do that to themselves?
Crown Vic is still really reliable; but its ride is more truck like. A lot of people worry that the air ride suspension is going to be a pain in the ass; but mine has never given me any trouble and from what I've read they're more reliable and cheaper to repair than most people think.
I guess if you're getting it with the intention of it being a beater and not a cruiser you take pride in then it makes sense to want to standard shocks since you've removed a moderately expensive component and replaced it with something cheaper and more bulletproof.

This car sucks dick, pic not mine just some redditor's.
About all you can say for it is you get an awd turbo drivetrain with a stick for cheap.
The rev hang is absurd, gear changes take a fucking lifetime and the transmission just feels like shit all the time unless you're sprinting from 60 to 120 which admittedly does feel great and like what the car wants to be doing all the time.
Seems like it would be great in the snow but the clearance is terrible and performance all season tires are actually just shit in the snow, so you'll need to run snow tires if you actually need to get somewhere (thankfully I don't lmao).

As far as new cars under 40k go... yeah, it's either that or the Mustang (I'd take the stang personally). I like the cooper s and miata too for more economy along with your sport, but obv if the question is lap times you aren't going faster in those.
You *might* be able to find a GR Corolla under the line somewhere... maybe...
Honestly things have been getting pretty grim for 'hot hatch' segments post 2020. Prices on these things creeping up to basically entry level BMW (or tesla) money, and it's like, what even is the value proposition anymore.

Panel gaps are completely okay if they are even, but misaligned surfaces make me cry internally. I like the overall design (pre-1991 front) and sometimes think about buying one (also in EU). I've seen a number of them and for some reason not a single one of them have everything properly aligned. Old Charger Daytonas have the similar problem with the front end for some reason.

You have to assume all these cars were brought to Europe after they had an accident in the US. That's how most of them got here. Besides that 80s GM wasn't exactly stellar in QC so there's a good chance many of these cars looked similar to how they do now even back then as far as panel gaps go.

yeah the steering wheel is surprisingly heavy and i have absolutely no idea why, only cars i've driven before were multiple opel omegas and a w220 s class so i thought smaller car=heavy steering
and the body roll is massive, especially for a double-wishbone suspension, i imagine it's because of the used up rubber parts in the suspension and anti-rollbars, regardless i bought some h&r springs off of a junkyard so i hope that'll fix the issue a bit

Its worth noting that the landau tops aren't a factory option. They're an after market addition and if they aren't sealed right water can get trapped under them and rust out the roof.
They look kind of neat; but I think two tone paint or a wrap would achieve the effect without the rust risk.

Looks and feels fantastic.
Takes up about as much road space as a modern mini.
V8 or BMW MIni. Decisions, decisions.

id take the v8 p6 any day, a bmw mini carries over bmw problems/difficulty to work on and the latest minis are ginormous and carry over that modern car fat in both weight and size. Meanwhile the p6 is commonly swapped from the stock 3.5 v8 to a more powerful and more common 4.6 v8 as a direct bolt in that makes it sound even badder, go even harder, and available with a holley carb campaitable intake. The Rover is just so much easier to live with, cheaper suspension components, cheaper drivetrain and trans rebuilds, cheaper tyres, cheaper everything. Its a no brainer to me

260F, not 260C. Had a retard moment lmao. That would be catastrophic for oil temps.

Goddamn, hatchback foxbodies look so good. Love the neutral styling akin to a Sierra, contradicted by that long hood. Cool car.

theyre not terrible dailies but if you even think about doing anything more than driving to work in it, it becomes a huge hassle. golf clubs fit but are a pain in the ass to maneuver for example.
the more concise answer is that car prices have gone up and salaries havenβt. people canβt afford second cars, those who can or want to already have one. If you have kids or a dog itβs a non starter. And the S650 frankly doesnβt offer enough over the S550 to get an S550 owner to trade theirs in
GR86s compete more with the ecoboost mustang, which is more similar in price, and toyota has famously gone with a low supply approach to their inventory so they sell out of almost everything
