Posted in the wrong thread last time so I guess I'll do it here. Finally got myself a saddlebag setup for the KLX, since GL was having a good sale. Might get a cheap Tusk cargo rack or something as well, I don't like how far forward the bag sits without it and the fender clips feel kinda weak to me but it's workable for now. Just gotta pick up some camping gear to put in it (got a bag but no tent/pad/stove, hoping I can find used deals) and then I can start posting some motocamping content.

Next size down, Coyote I think. I think the Great Basin would've been way too big for my bike and I was hoping to use the setup for non-camping stuff as well (carrying tubes and tools etc.) but it's pretty bulky and floppy even when empty so I'm not as sure, might have to get one of those little Tusk bag setups or something. At least I can use the bike for small grocery runs and stuff now.

How tall are you and what's your build? How much riding experience do you have if any? If this is your first bike it might be a good idea to get a lower one so that you can develop good habits and skills without being intimidated. I could flat floor my Ninja 250 no problem. When I started looking at bigger bikes, I discovered that I could only tip toe most of them and that's when I learned that flat footing is just something newbies and Harley boomers do. Right foot on brake, left foot flat on the ground and you're still perfectly stable.

It's a little different with off road bikes, though, and I'm assuming he's considering that since he's looking at a KTM. Obviously experienced dirtbike riders can manage super tall bikes but dirtbikes are super light and easy to muscle around. With ADVs, and especially for less experienced riders, being able to flat foot it on level pavement means you'll probably still be able to get a toe down when you have to on sketchy uneven ground and it can make the difference between having to pick up 500+lbs of bike or maybe even getting hurt, and just being able to dab a toe down and then ride away with no harm done.

That said, I think 855mm means he's talking about the 390 Adventure, and personally when I sat on one I thought it felt unusually tall for its official seat height stat, something about the width and geometry of the seat and plastics underneath along with how much the suspension squats. The Norden 901 for example has almost exactly the same official seat height and it's a much bigger bike overall but somehow I felt more planted sitting on one of those than I did on the 390.

>>28508214
you nailed it
it is 390 Adv, and yes in my uneven backyard it feels ok
but maybe i just need to get used to it
its definitely the geometry more than height
855mm is not that crazy and tall but they made the seat and everything bit wider to be more comfortable for travel and stuff
its good for offroad but its far from a skinny enduro
it is light however compared to serious ADVs

not sure how I feel now, maybe i need to get the feel of it since it is my first motorcycle
or maybe just fear hype from first impression

The FJR? I was getting bored of it, it's basically a perfect bike aside from being a little heavy and I wanted something a bit more lively and interesting, even if the KTM I replaced it with was worse on paper. All day comfort, super smooth engine, real cruise control (aftermarket), good handling, brakes and shifting, combined with a 2.7s 0-60 can actually get to be a bit boring from being too good. It was probably also too much bike for me at the time, a 17-20 year old kid probably shouldn't have access to that kind of power.

R9 finished first and second, not going to look that up, I'll take you at your word.

Did those riders happen to finish first and second in their previous races? Do you think that track riding has more to do with the bike or the rider?

Why is it that everyone is talking about how the rpm band is such a let down because it has such a low red line and the top end power is absolute ass, yet, it's le heckin so good!

I got fat and didn't ride much during covid, when I came back, a bike that was originally tall but manageable for me ended up being too tall for me to want to deal with day to day, which meant I didn't ride it as much as I wanted to, and I found the seat pretty uncomfortable, even after changing it out with a custom seat concepts kit. I also wanted to free up a bit of cash at around the same time, so I sold the KTM for $7k CAD, and bought the BMW for $2800.

It ticks a lot of boxes for a great city bike. IMU-based ABS w/ radial mounted caliper, LED lighting, 317lbs, 6 speed with gear indicator, probably 65-70mpg in the city, very compact for shenanigans, actually decent suspension, slipper clutch, probably some more little things I'm missing.

Basically a bigger Grom with more power and tech upgrades.

Yes.
You have to ride like every cagie is out there to kill you.
Thats why I've pulled 4 decades on the asphalt and the only time I've been down is because my foot slipped on some freshly fallen leaves in the parking lot.

So I'm kinda dumb with electronics and everything else I've bought for the bike has just wired onto the battery and sorted itself out. Got a cheapo android auto screen to save keeping my phone out in the weather, it doesnt turn off with the bike so can I just use one of these things that plug into my fuse block and tap off the one for brake lights? Or do I have to add a relay and cut into the ignition wires and all that fun stuff?

Kymcos are great. It's comfy but I need to scoot(lel) way back in the seat because I'm 6'1 but it still works. They used to make parts for Honda and supply some engines for BMW so their reputation is up there. I'm thinking about putting a down payment on an AK550 now.

I can't compare personally because my only big boy bike I had was a 99 shadow 1100 and nothing has beat that in comfort yet.

What's more, the human mind is so intelligent that you don't need to have 100 experiences to know 100 things.
If you experience a small percentage of them, you can predict the rest.
Thus, as we get older, life loses a little bit of excitement.
The world that seemed infinitely vast as a child becomes smaller and smaller at an accelerating rate as we become adults.
I felt an unfathomable sadness at the irony of life.

Life gets more and more boring as time goes by, and that can never be stopped.
Because what you see for the first time today, tomorrow will become what you saw yesterday
What you touch for the first time today, tomorrow will become what you touched yesterday
And the second impression will never surpass the first impression.

That reminds me, and I hope someone can answer. Those efi systems have both a MAP and MAF sensor. Does that mean it is a fully auto adjusting system or could it still use a fuel map? I'd like to get a different exhaust but I don't think anyone is able to tune it if it doesn't auto adjust.

Difference in values anon. You want an old bike to larp as a hipster, I want a modern retro for the power and modern tech. Either choice is fine because neither are Jeet bikes like KTM.
>>28509677
Don't get me wrong, the price of any new vehicle is absolutely bonkers.

>Jeet bikes
Jeet bikes catching strays. When did a jeet bike ever breakdown and strand you? We make actual good bikes. Atleast the mass manufactured ones are good. Don't bring up obscure electric bikes, the point still stands.

My short list would be:
2014 KTM 690 Duke
2011 Triumph Sprint ST
2008 Yamaha FZ1
2008 Yamaha MT01
2003 Suzuki TL1000R
1999 Honda CBR1100xx

the KTM and the MT01 are the most interesting to me, but the triumph is probably the best fit for what type of riding I usually end up doing.

Why do you think KTM is having so many issues? CFMoto has been making their shit lately and their production line sucks since the Covid supply chain issues.

>CFMoto
CFMoto is chink company anon. All the cheese cams and stuff are from this.

KTM only makes 390s, 250s and 125s in India, not anything else. Triumph 400s are also probably made on the same assembly line. In India, they provide 10y warranty for this pos I think just the 400 lineup from Triumph and KTM.
