Never say never until you see it in person, sometimes you do get lucky. A friend of mine was looking at an A180 CDI for 3 grand under market value, and we were convinced it was either non existent or about to blow up. When we went to go look at it it had a couple silly bits wrong, but nothing that warranted the 3 grand drop. Regardless, she wanted it, and we couldn't really find an excuse not to get it, and she had that thing for 3 or 4 years with no issues what so ever.

Did you mean powdered metal epoxy filler?
That's something the machine shop can do if I end up pulling the crank.

I looked at the speedi sleeve, it's a viable solution, but not an easy one. I don't think I can just slap one on.
They are custom sized and ordered, probably won't be much cheaper than servicing the crank.

My friend is AWOL until the weekend so I'm gonna have to try and manhandle the transmission back in place myself. Right now I need to jack the car up a bit higher. I think I'm on the 2nd to last notch on the stands.

Again, there's nothing wrong in principal, I just don't like seeing such a thin piece of metal holding up an entire car. I use the jack pads behind the pinch welds instead, and put a block of wood between the jack and the pad to stop any scratching of the paint.

I've never had a problem with it. What you DON'T do it jack up the car by the pinch welds, though. Haven't had a problem supporting it by the pinch welds once up in the air. My welds are straight though. If they were slightly bend I could see how putting jacks on it would make the bends worse and worse over time.

The pad isn't just for stability, it's the load bearing surface that the wider side of your factory jack sits on. The cut out on the jack doesn't touch the pinch weld at all. And yes, pinch welds are fine.

I’ve got an β€˜07 NC1. Overheats when I stop at idle after driving for a bit. Not even too hard, just regular motorway driving. Even worse when I’ve got the air con running. Only thing that keeps temp normal is cranking up the cabin heater and blasting all the engine heat into my face. Sucks during the summer. Recently flushed the coolant system. Helped a little but still having the issue.
I’d guess itβ€˜s one of 4 things

No idea about the wires, but the charcoal canister is literally a case of unbolting the canister, joining the two pipes underneath together, and capping/blanking the port on the intake. I did it in maybe 3 minutes, it's piss easy and pretty straight forward.

I don't get this obsession with having to have something unique, turning down something else simply for its popularity. Buy what you like/makes you happy, it's your money. Having a popular car (especially in the Miata's case) also means there's endless aftermarket parts support for it, any question you could have or DIY guide you might need to reference has already been posted online, and (for the most part) you can even get parts you need short notice from local auto parts stores. Yeah an imported MG F might be more unique and special (for example) but nobody is going to have parts for it and there will be little to no documentation online for it either. You're on your own.

Bro, just buy the fucking car, 4 or 5k might seem like a lot, but it really isn't in the grand scheme of things. Worst case is that you have to sell the car if you get in trouble. Heavily doubt you'll lose money on an old Miata, assuming you don't rice the fuck out of it.

Storage is the primary concern for me. I only plan on using one car at a time, I would keep my Subaru for fall / winter and the Miata for spring / summer. I would prefer not to pay for a storage unit to store one of them while not in use. There is a gravel / dirt patch of land next to my family's house I could park one car but I'm unsure about what kind of / how severe the wear would be from just letting a parked car sit there.

Also I've actually already completed a few years of college but I am pivoting what career I'm going into. I have recently completed the pre-requisite courses most transfer programs are looking for. It would be "going to university" a second time I guess

That's exactly what I did but with a complete reseal first including swapping to the NB1 headgasket. One note is you might want a LHD 6 speed shift lever, it's angled differently for RHD. Driveable, but might feel off once I have the car together. I also had to reuse my USDM NB1 fuel rail, the one the JDM engine came with was not returnless like mine. I also went for a 3.6 rear diff to go with the 6 speed at the same time which brings the overall ratios to be very similar to the 5MT+4.3, but with one more gear, unfortunately the 3.6 ring and pinion set isn't easy to come by in the US. You'll probably at least want a 3.9 like the 6 speeds came with here, otherwise the gearing will actually be even shorter than the 5 speed's, worse on the highway.
Anonymous No.28533457
>>28533434
The JDM engines also don't come with EGR so you'll want to swap that stuff over from yours and use your original engine harness if you don't want a check engine light. Make sure you get one with a squaretop intake manifold, they're way better than the VTCS USDM NB2 intakes and are worth a fuckload of money separately from the engine stateside

One of the perks of waking up at 5am is you can beat the heat but not the goddamn humidity.

I got my fuseblock and wideband controller mounted on the printed bracket I made. Ignore the crooked look, I noticed it after the picture and adjusted it up. Those hanging wires will be going to the MSPNP for the wideband and the relay control. It all fits behind the glovebox. I can open the glovebox and view the status lights on the LC-2 wideband and the fuse blown lights. No holes were drilled and it is all reversable back to stock if I ever need to do so (not that I will). The connectors and terminals and shrink wrap are all marine grade with adhesive for 100% seal against the weather, because convertible. Now I have a circuit for the seat heaters I am going to put in, the wideband, and 4 more circuits. Eventually going to put a dashcam in and it will be nice to only have to plug in and not tap in somewhere.
Anonymous No.28535667
Opened glovebox. Dedicated power directly from battery with 100A fuse. That one ground that is on the bracket is for the relay that is behind everything. It fits perfectly in the gap between the motor and the AC box. Entire bracket is removable from the front and all hardware is tapped in, so I don't need an allen key AND a wrench cause fuck fighting that nonsense in such a tiny space. Next time I make a bracket I might make the window on the side of the fusebox a little larger. I can get my finger back there to push the button to get the cover off, but I know I can get another 1/8th inch all around off the flange if I cared enough.

Anonymous No.28538056 >>28538059

Only reason to buy an automatic is if you're buying an old one, private sale, because they're 50-75% off compared to a manual. If you're paying stealership prices just get the real thing.
Anonymous No.28538058 >>28538059
>>28538028
I'll say the same thing as every time this is asked: if you go for the auto, you'll be thrilled with having a shiny new car for a few weeks, but quickly outgrow it once you get used to the car and be wishing for something more since at the end of the day, it's a driver's car which will be missing one of the most engaging parts- and then (if you don't buy it cash) you're stuck with years of payments left. The manual might be shaky at first if you're not used to driving manual, but you'll grow into it and not to sound hokey, but you might just even form a bond with the car. I certainly did. I daily mine (manual) and wouldn't trade it for the world.

If that's not enough and you need a more logical reason, the manuals hold their value much better than the automatics do as the Miata is one of the few cars where the main buying demographic wants a manual. If you absolutely have to have an auto, definitely don't buy a brand new one which would mean both taking the initial depreciation hit and losing secondary market value faster as well.

Anonymous No.28539512 >>28539547
>>28539399
TBF it depends on how heavy the traffic is, and how frequently you find yourself in it. If you're in traffic that barely creeps along, then you'll often find yourself just slightly riding the clutch the whole time, moving just fast enough to require some kind of engagement, but never stopping long enough to be able to take your foot off or disengage, which also means you never get out of 1st. THAT traffic sucks in a manual, especially if you're stuck doing it for a long time. Those moments are so rare for me and so many others that it's not even worth worrying about, but for those that do experience that kind of traffic on a near daily basis, it's perfectly reasonable to prefer an auto; t that being said, if that's your environment then why even buy a Miata, it's completely wasted.
Anonymous No.28539547
>>28539512
I've been in stop and go traffic in both manuals and automatics, and for me the frustration of being stuck in traffic barely diminishes when being in an automatic over the absolute horror of having to work a clutch pedal, while the disappointment of being stuck with an automatic when the road opens up is way more upsetting.

It idles like shit, Im told cause its a 1.8 swap and the 1.6 ECU has no sensors for the IAC. its always idled like shit. it also has this weird fuel cut its been doing off and on. I was told it might be a defective TPS and the car thinks it at idle and cuts fuel.
I was going to go standalone this year but money is very tight right now, so that's back on the burner for now.
I pinched the fucking O2 sensor between the trans and block, so i'll need to rewire that. no biggie.

The little side-pipe that goes under the throttle-body suplies the air to the idle-speed controller... which essentially contols how much air is allowed into the engine when the throttle is closed....

If you're still running the stock ECU/PCM, it needs to know how much air is flowing to add the right amount of fuel... so the idle air is taken from the flow thats been measured by the MAF.... As long as you put metered air in, it will run fine.... if you dont it will run lean...

If, on the otherhand, you have an aftermarket ECU that uses manifold pressure to meter the fuel.... you can just put a little filter on that tube.

It still sometimes dies at idle and does not run well when cold.

You can even get them with a convertible hardtop and unlike the ND, when the NC hardtop is down, the car is still a full convertible. I’m also interested in the NC because it has an old school double din head unit so I can easily replace it with something modern. The ND Miata’s head unit is hot garbage u less you’re getting a 2024 or newer model year and there’s only one option I know up to upgrade the older models which is hard and expensive.

hey i got a weird issue with my Miata's radio
I have a Kenwood deck, and a JL Audio amp.
When I listen to the Radio, I get sound from the door speakers, headrest speaker, and the rumbler works
when i listen to CD, only the door speakers and rumbler works. no audio from the headrest speakers
when I listen to BT, or UBS, I only get audio from the door speakers. rumbler and headrest speakers do not work.

I had a leak in my trunk and at one point the amp got wet and stopped working. I took it apart, and cleaned off the corrosion with isopropyl, it now works again, but has the same issues.

is this a deck issue, amp issue, or wiring issue?
