If it leaks. Il need to pull crank and have it polished and do a bottom end rebuild during winter.
I still got some work left, I'll report later
>>28513395I put the sticker on the frame near the bonnet catch this time.
>>28513477I'm done for the day, I'll ask a friend to give me a hand with the transmission install. I do not wanna solo it again.

I'm not sure if its a troll or bait. Since clapped out NA's are going for 8k.
>>28513402I suppose you could've bought a "speedi sleeve" but I've personally never used one of those.
>>28513745Well fuck I wish someone let me know that product existed a few hours ago. Too late now, I guess if the seal does leak I can use that instead of taking the crank out.
>>28513829yea I wasn't monitoring the thread lmao. whoops. I think that's your nuclear option until it's a machine shop job.
>>28513699Never say never until you see it in person, sometimes you do get lucky. A friend of mine was looking at an A180 CDI for 3 grand under market value, and we were convinced it was either non existent or about to blow up. When we went to go look at it it had a couple silly bits wrong, but nothing that warranted the 3 grand drop. Regardless, she wanted it, and we couldn't really find an excuse not to get it, and she had that thing for 3 or 4 years with no issues what so ever.
>>28513867what brand of motorcycle does this cat represent?
>>28513699The scam is that he asks you for a deposit to hold it for you until he's "back" and you come out to look at it.

>>28513402Should have RTV'd this dent in
>>28514856Did you mean powdered metal epoxy filler?
That's something the machine shop can do if I end up pulling the crank.
I looked at the speedi sleeve, it's a viable solution, but not an easy one. I don't think I can just slap one on.
They are custom sized and ordered, probably won't be much cheaper than servicing the crank.
My friend is AWOL until the weekend so I'm gonna have to try and manhandle the transmission back in place myself. Right now I need to jack the car up a bit higher. I think I'm on the 2nd to last notch on the stands.
>>28515099i've done a trans by myself. it fucking sucks. I slide it from the front of the car though instead of the side. I don't think mine would fit from the side.
and then I had to do the job again because the rear main was leaking!
>>28515099>Jacks on the pinch weldsI know this is common practice, but YIKES do I hate it.
>>28515169What's the problem with that? The Mazda factory service manual says to use the pinch welds as your jack stand points.
>>28515255I don't know how or when, but for some reason the rear passenger side where the jacking mount is is folded the fuck over. I can't get it back straight and I'll be damned if I'm using the pinch welds at all.
>>28515255Again, there's nothing wrong in principal, I just don't like seeing such a thin piece of metal holding up an entire car. I use the jack pads behind the pinch welds instead, and put a block of wood between the jack and the pad to stop any scratching of the paint.
>>28515255I've never had a problem with it. What you DON'T do it jack up the car by the pinch welds, though. Haven't had a problem supporting it by the pinch welds once up in the air. My welds are straight though. If they were slightly bend I could see how putting jacks on it would make the bends worse and worse over time.
>>28515169>>28515255>>28515301my car has been sitting on these jacks for 6 months like this. I took hella special care making sure the pinch is right down the center groove of the jack arm, and nothing is pushing into the floorboards
>>28515303I use a hockey puck if I ever need to use the pinch welds as a jacking point. otherwise I aways use the diff/rear sub, and/or kmember.
>>28515373>my car has been sitting on these jacks for 6 months like this. I took hella special care making sure the pinch is right down the center groove of the jack arm, and nothing is pushing into the floorboardsAgain, not chastising you or saying you're doing it wrong, I don't doubt you and your car will be fine, I just don't like it. Personal preference thing.
>>28515390I know what you mean, I recently jacked up a car without a rubber disc and the jack bit into the pinch weld. need to always be extra careful.
where would you place the jacks?
>>28515399The yellow highlights in the picture here
>>28515301. It's where the factory jack from the trunk is designed to sit.
>>28515414I see.
that seems more for stability with the emergency jack.
Pinch weld just fine
>>28515471>stability The pad isn't just for stability, it's the load bearing surface that the wider side of your factory jack sits on. The cut out on the jack doesn't touch the pinch weld at all. And yes, pinch welds are fine.
I was driving on the highway today while eating a burger. I have a mazda 3 with adaptive cruise control and i want to trade it in for a miata.
Anyways, i realized. I couldnt do this if i were in manual miata. Im in a dilemma.
>>28515868What do you mean? On the highway you don't have to shift, you can eat burgers in a manual MX5.

You can eat a burger on the highway.
got off my ass and started getting the easy stuff out the engine bay. dreading getting the engine out because the only space i have to work is on a hill
>>28517436I would love to get rid of all the shit on the left side of your picture when I go megasquirt
>>28517442nta, but why can't you just get rid of it now? I did just that myself, its not like it's tied into the ECU or anything.
>>28517442when the motor blew last month i had thought about just ls swapping it and getting a megasquirt but the lack of funding and it being my only mode of transportation pushed me away from the idea. i just purchased a donor motor thats still relatively healthy to swap in
Iโve got an โ07 NC1. Overheats when I stop at idle after driving for a bit. Not even too hard, just regular motorway driving. Even worse when Iโve got the air con running. Only thing that keeps temp normal is cranking up the cabin heater and blasting all the engine heat into my face. Sucks during the summer. Recently flushed the coolant system. Helped a little but still having the issue.
Iโd guess itโs one of 4 things
>A bad relay
>Bad temp sensor
>Wiring issue
>Radiator fan problem
Anyone had a similar issue?
>>28517548check fan blowing direction
>>28517478Honestly because I have no idea what it all does (yet) but I abhor the clutter. I know some is charcoal canister so that's no problem, but where there's wires there gonna be ECU problems.
If someone could kindly point me to a thread on it or their removal that would be great.
>>28517548Sounds like the radiator fan isn't working. Check the relay or try "hot wiring" the fan on. Any codes?
>>28518846No idea about the wires, but the charcoal canister is literally a case of unbolting the canister, joining the two pipes underneath together, and capping/blanking the port on the intake. I did it in maybe 3 minutes, it's piss easy and pretty straight forward.

>>28519221Thanks! Will do it this weekend when I replace my fog lights. Drivers lower got busted and it's been fucking brutal looking for the bracket from a NB2.5, but I found someone overseas for that. Morimoto xb evo
does anyone have a specific recommendation for a coolant reroute on an NA? i wanna do it while the engine is out the car
>>28515938>vroom vroom too loud>shift up>gotta go fast>shift downnow you know how to drive manual
will there be vendors selling aftermarket parts at miatas at the gap next month?
>>28519636I have the flyin miata one and it's nice, the install in the car wasn't as bad as it seems if you have an inspection mirror to look at the mating surface on the head with. I like that it comes with a support holder thing for the hose that bolts to the intake manifold support brace and the block off plate to delete the neck entirely.
>>28513314Nth for smolbros
>>28515126for me i had the output shaft housing on my knees (not as painful as it sounds) while the rest of the tranny was on the floor jack, then i bench pressed it into place. it went in so much easier than expected. also make sure you have the bolts ready. my box didn't fall back out but i had the bolts close by just in case
>>28519728I fear this post may have forced me into finally joining the club.
are these too played out? I want a fun/cheap weekend car but these seem overdone. There's not a whole lot else up for sale though that satisfies what I'm looking for.
>>28519973>too played out>seem overdonewhat do you mean by this blud
surely any fun/cheap used car is going to need TLC
>>28519979Theyโre too popular now is what I mean. NA Miata for a weekend driver/project car is like reddit recommending a CX5 as a daily. Not to say theyโre bad choices. Idk maybe I should just drive one and find out.
It's been a year since I sold my na Miata to a 16 yo girl. I wonder how it's doing
>>28519973I don't get this obsession with having to have something unique, turning down something else simply for its popularity. Buy what you like/makes you happy, it's your money. Having a popular car (especially in the Miata's case) also means there's endless aftermarket parts support for it, any question you could have or DIY guide you might need to reference has already been posted online, and (for the most part) you can even get parts you need short notice from local auto parts stores. Yeah an imported MG F might be more unique and special (for example) but nobody is going to have parts for it and there will be little to no documentation online for it either. You're on your own.

Feel like I got fucked. Guess I am going to 3k oil changes with the millenia oil filter instead.

>>28513477alright gentleman. I had to deal with a slipping k46 transaxle last few days. I got that rebuilt, and now back to the Miata. I'm gonna try get the trans in solo today.
i got the thing balanced on a hydraulic jack. hopefully it wont fight me.
>>28522437I'm tapping out early. I cannot get the transmission in place. It doesn't fit between a k-member. I need to slide it from the back to the front. The PPF is in the way. How do I get it off the diff? should this dowel be so far up?
It won't rotate or slip pff
>>28522501Never mind I got it off. Forgot about the nothing on top of whatever it's called. I ended up pinching the fuck out of my finger so I am giving up for the evening here. I'm going to ask my neighbor to give me a hand or something
>>28521673I hate them! The halos broke within a year. I actually have a brand new crystal clear set of stockies on my bookcase waiting to be put in. It's just really cold here rn and I don't want to be in the freezing garage.
How often should I change the oil on an NA with 170k miles on it?
>>28522780I wish I could find some super clear headlights like that...
Does anyone have the picture where it says "color a face on your miot"?

I'm gonna use my next paycheck to buy a jack and some stands for myself finally
I'm aware of the ND Miata's side to side lean during aggressive turns.
But how is the front to back lean under heavy breaking?
Can you really get away with just sway bars?

anyone familliar with how mazda leases work? I have a lease on a mazda cx 30 and im only a year and some change in. >>28529986I didn't even sell mine, it's just been dead for 7 months and I still miss the fuck out of it
Br/o/s I want to get an older Miata so bad for like 4-5 K and it would be around 5% of my savings. I want it as a fun car and a car I can use to learn to wrench. The thing is I'm planning on going to school in the nearish future, and while I think I have enough money for everything without taking out loans I'm scared I'll feel guilty for buying this instead of saving it. I also sorta feel like I should just be satisfied with my 2013 3.6 outback for now and be grateful for what I have
>>28531374Bro, just buy the fucking car, 4 or 5k might seem like a lot, but it really isn't in the grand scheme of things. Worst case is that you have to sell the car if you get in trouble. Heavily doubt you'll lose money on an old Miata, assuming you don't rice the fuck out of it.
>>28531374Are you going to have anywhere to keep a second vehicle? To me, I think being young and heading off to university is the perfect time to have a two-seater.
>>28531409You're misunderstanding, he's talking about going to a pre-school. He needs a van, not a Miata.
>>28531374How old are you? For a second I thought you were college age but 100k savings is quite a lot unless you're some crypto whiz kid. Id get the miata if it were me.
>>28527648Interesting sidegrade
How do I make my NA8 more playful? It's bone stock and frankly kinda boring to drive.
>>28531404This is actually a good (and honestly pretty obvious) point I somehow didn't think of. It would break my heart to sell something I love but I guess it's better to have love and lost than to have never loved at all
>>28531409Storage is the primary concern for me. I only plan on using one car at a time, I would keep my Subaru for fall / winter and the Miata for spring / summer. I would prefer not to pay for a storage unit to store one of them while not in use. There is a gravel / dirt patch of land next to my family's house I could park one car but I'm unsure about what kind of / how severe the wear would be from just letting a parked car sit there.
Also I've actually already completed a few years of college but I am pivoting what career I'm going into. I have recently completed the pre-requisite courses most transfer programs are looking for. It would be "going to university" a second time I guess
>>28531432I'm 24. So upper end of college aged I suppose? I've always liked working with my hands and I like engineering / mechanics, but my interest in cars didn't really begin until relatively recently

Man, I love driving my Miata.
I also have a C5 Z06 Corvette, but I genuinely enjoy my turbo'd shitbox more on backroads and city driving.
I spent all of my money on a miata and now I don't have enough money to buy gas and a radiator fan.
>>28531618Are you me from 20 years ago when I bought my shit box with the last dime and ran out of gas 75 miles from home and had to ask strangers for a few gallons but it has to be premium too?
>>28531629I was able to get it home and drive it around on the back roads for a while. I just have to wait to fill it up and also fix the radiator fan until next week when I get paid.
earlier today i was having some regrets about buying a convertible in a region where it's always either too cold, too humid, or raining, but the weather was perfect later in the afternoon and that drive made it all worth it
Speeding btch hit my 95 m miat in the front side. Insurance totaled it cuz lolold. I wanna kms. Every single accident I've been in involving another "person" has been some woman that screams about how sorry they are for hitting me etc etc then goes to insurance and claims I caused early menopause.
Current NA market is batshit, 15k for a good one now. (Prior rustfree happy 91 and 95 for 3k, 5k). What the fk do now? 15k +5k in peak parts is still cheaper than a 35k ND2/3 without popups and thought monitoring but don't have 15k cash. Fk women drivers.
>>28532103Can't you just have the totalled car fixed...?

>>28532119Frame damage and don't have a garage or place to keep it while saving up for repairs. City/apt stuff. Didn't think it was worth it to dump $ into with 160k miles :/ still probably made the wrong choice though in the long run but ye not enough money on hand.
