Suzuki has fucking done it again.

Haters will say "this is too expensive compared to the Z900RS which is basically the same price."

What the haters don't realize is that this is an instant classic. It's the real deal, backed by Suzuki's unwavering commitment to reliable and balanced designs. Reviewers all rate the 8R/S as topping the middleweight charts for good reason. When the manufacturer of the tu250x, sv650, gsxr750, and Hayabusa tells you to buy their new retro naked, you sit your white ass down and listen.

EX aficionado here.
Some issues-
All the nippon 4 have different geometry.
If you're comfy on a Kawi, a Suzuki feels weird.
So its not about " this bike is better".
Its about "this bike is better FOR ME"
For the record I've owned all 4 so im not pushing a single brand.
Since you have mileage under your belt I'd stick with Kawasaki.
You want to step up your game so we're in 4 cyl world. Fuck big bore twins, you'll be asking "why did i buy this monstrosity thats heavier and tops out the same on the freeway".
>disclaimer- I've never discussed the ZX400 but its an option.
Personally, I think the ZX-6R is where you're at.
Literally has the hp of 750s/900s that the old fuckers itt rode/are riding but is lighter and familiar.

I fucked up my right leg and it hurts bad but its not that deep. Bike is fine mostly, only scratches as far as i could tell yet. Gonna check tomorrow for deeper damage.
Tbh aside the adrenaline i feal great, i always assumed when i crash with no gear im going to be dead but its alright even this fast. It propably helped that im driving this big boy which did not crush my leg like most other bikes would.

I decided to ride a little later at night than i usually do. There was a zipper merge and I was ahead of the guy behind who was accelerating to try and cut me off so I started to shift over and brapped the throttle stepping in at the last minute. The assumed EBT American with the white acura MDX behind me turned on their high beams and started to go over the center line and cut me off. I gassed up and got back in front again. I could tell they were going to chimp out and maybe try to harm me next. so I used the bike lane to move up ahead and leave them behind me. Low and behold a whole swarm of EBT Americans were taking the whole stretch of road for their outdoor party smoking weed and drinking probably where the driver was going. I get out of there fast. I got home and all i could think of was beating the shit out of them. I think I will get home by midnight from now. At least don't do Friday nights. Too many weirdos and animals on the road late.

Resuming my clutch dump from yesterday. I got the correct thread locker, and I finished everything up. Here the back plate is installed on the new Hinson clutch basket. A generous amount on Loctite 272 is applied to both the bolt and hole threads. The bolts are then torqued to 40inlbs.

And this was what this was all for. You can see the grooves worn into the old clutch basket in pic related. You can dress these with a file, but you'll be doing it over and over again. After I put everything back together, the bike rolled much easier in gear with the clutch pulled in than before. That and motoring through the clutch at stoplights was what prompted replacing the basket. Hopefully this solves it.
Thank you for joining me in the conclusion of this clutch dump.

But after a couple of hours something seemed to click for him, he then rode it home an hour away in the middle of the night.
The next day he called me up thanking me so much for recommending it to him and that he loves how comfortable, powerful, and capable it is.
He is the third person that I’ve recommended the SV650 engine to that has had nothing but positive things to say about it since they got it. If it wasn’t for my love of inline fours I’d probably be a Vstrom too, the SV650 is so perfect. Thanks Suzuki!

Issue is I cut new head studs from threaded rod and apparently I cut them a tad too long. The studs are hitting the valve cover so it doesn't seat completely.
The smart thing to do would be to pull the studs out one by one and shorten them, I'm going to try double stacking 2 gaskets and then cut them to proper size when it leaks yet again.

Other bikes were shades of similar problems: the BMWs had drivetrain related issues and the Honda was on 50 year old suspension with bicycle width tires. It was cool, but yikes.

The only thing I'd change is the gearing. I'd prefer a little more spread between the gears. I ride around town doing 45 in 6th, which is...suboptimal.

Fuck br/o/s. My friend finally found a milk crate to zip tie to the back of his bike to carry shit. But it has this legal warning as well as the manufacturer's and owner's name on it. I also checked and incredibly, the state I reside in DOES have a law specifically prohibiting unauthorized milk crate possession and use. This is a huge billboard on a bike that one is actively breaking laws.

In Florida, a man was jailed for unauthorized milk crate strapped to his bicycle. So it's not that this is without precedent.

What would you do? My friend really wants to use this crate. But how would a person hypothetically remove the manufacturer and owner's name? It is injection-molded into the plastic. And I believe that would net a person additional charges for obscuring evidence.

It was garaged for years and had rust on the chain and everything, battery was nearly dead and tires were way out of date.
All things I did not have the money or wrenching skills to fix, on top of that, the real clip ons were difficult for me to figure out as a new rider and I ended up dropping it 3 times in the maybe 10 times I ever rode it
