A new DRZ400 is like 7-8 grand, I'm not looking at the DRZ4S. People are selling 2007-2010 DRZ's for like 5 or 6 and justifying the prices because of all the mods they've slapped on. Even seen a few XR650's and DR650's from 2002-2014 being placed for sale at 5k+.
I understand that dual sports retain their value, but I think asking almost MSRP for a 10+ year bike is fucking ridiculous

Years ago I got with a girl who was "just living with her ex until she could get her own place." Turned out she hadn't told him that he was "her ex" now and was just cheating with me at the start, but I didn't figure that out until after we'd dated and lived together for almost 5 years and then she did the same thing to me, and afterwards a mutual friend talked to her ex and compared notes.

TVS used to be TVS-Suzuki, they are known for quality over here. Much higher quality compared to KTM 390s and Royal Enfields. Enfield even hired TVS people to improve their quality. I'd presume that's why BMW chose them to make 310 and 450 with them. Norton being owned by TVS is a good thing IMO.

Any thoughts on a honda hornet 919 as a first bike? Only things I've heard about it are the carbed models being a little touchy with the throttle input, but other than that, I've ridden a lot of other vehicles with power and it seems like the 919 is just a better bike than the cb600f overall. My other choice was an sv650 but I'm not the biggest fan of the vtwin. I had considered a katana 600 for a little while but it seems like they're a little old by now for the most part and its hard to find a newer one in good condition, and I doubt it'd be easy to sell once I grew out of it. There's 2 or 3 919's under $3k near me though, so I figure I might pull the trigger on one anyway. I'll mostly be commuting on it and probably do a handful of rides over 2 hours, so I like the idea of a comfortable seating position too

I'm poor and don't own a bike yet. I have decent, full gear.

I'm mechanically competent and have my own tools. I have worked on engines before, but not bikes.

I want a Varadero 125 but the ones I see advertised below £1500 are rusted out shitters. That's still the - medium term - aim.

To reiterate - I'm completely fucking skint atm for reasons, so is there some ancient piece of shit I can pick up for under a grand to dick around on and work on in the meantime?

You are on the right track with the based and reliable old honders

I assume you are a tallish anon and thats why you are looking at varaderos?

You should be able to pick up a running XR125 for around 1k (still taller rider friendly) there are plenty of parts available online and plenty of info

CLR125 (Honda cityfly) similar to the XR only less "off road" styling
CG125
CB125s
CBF125s /yamaha YZF125s(more the sportier looking ones, look rather uncomfy for general 125 riding tbqh)
Yamaha YBRs are cheap and plentiful

Avoid all the chink shit no matter how good of a deal it is or how little miles it has, they are ALL shit

Pic rel, its my based and quality NXR125 (its the same as an XR125 but with drums front and rear because that's is more "rugged" apparently)

Cheers, yeah. That's what I'm thinking re selling it on, which is part of the appeal of a semi-project, while I'm waiting around anyway. The 450 and 250f are YZ motors and frames with different cams, electric start, little stuff like that that makes them very fast play bikes, but they're still maintenance intensive. The wr250r was an entirely different engine and frame built to be street legal everywhere, with a very long valve check interval, overgrown charging system, load bearing subframe, passenger pegs, turn signals, and a 3000 mile oil change.

Maybe an oddball choice, but how about an Africa Twin? Way better on pavement than something like a T7, enough power to be fun, good enough off road for 99% of people, has all the stuff you'd want for touring, and what really puts it over the top is Honda reliability and their dealer network.

As a previous owner of a fuel injected 2002 I probably would not recommend it as a first bike. Even its smaller brother 599 would probably not be ideal. Good bike though. Considered a parts bike but better than the sum of it's parts imo. I had upgraded the front end with F4i forks and modified the rearsets and had sato titanium slip-on cans with a pc3. The bike is a bit under 600cc hp with more torque and no wind protection. Figure running low 11's with it. Again...great bike and I sometimes regret selling it but for a new rider it might make you shit your pants and meet Jesus. I didn't find the throttle too touchy but I also owned a literbike so the bike was a bit underwhelming as far as power. I did beat some 600's with it but a newer one with a good rider would show me his taillight.

The axle slider blocks sheared a bit a few weeks back when i was doing basic chain adjustment and ive never overtorqued it, this was when loosening
I limped back to here with about 75% what it was normall torqued and just sat here waiting for parts
It doesnt matter the nut part, the whole thing spins because those cocksucking sliderblocks have a 1/4inch aluminum which is shear noe, and the flat part of the axle is supposed to stay stationary within them
Thats why im at a loss of how to get this cunt out.

And i dont have an impact on me here

The axle spins because the block is cooked but you might be able to wedge something in between the axle and block to force it stationary while you break the nut loose. Wedge something between the upper left (flathead/drift/chisel/etc) edge of the axle and the block and lower right edge between the block and axle. Push in and even out at the same time tightly while someone breaks the nut loose. Recruit a friend to hit the nut while you and maybe even another gorilla wedge into those corners with something. The block is already cooked so who cares if you have to gouge into it to get a good purchase

As was also suggested breaking/cutting the nut might be the way to go. You can also try heat to get the nut to expand to help when you are trying to break it free. Penetrating lubricant and heat can work wonders but i gotta tell you it looks like a rat was chewing on your nut and axle. I would try penetrating lube and heat on the nut and a wedge on the other side and if that doesn't work you can cut a line into the nut across the threads perpendicular and use a chisel to break the nut all the way through to relieve tension. Obviously try to localize the damage to easily replaced parts but if it's already smoked just do whatever you can because regardless it's going to need to be replaced. Do you have map gas/torch?

If I was there I would help you brother. I might try something i could get inside the axle to thread or expand to hold it stationary but prolly won't be successful. Combined with heat on the nut to lessen the force needed it might work

good luck
