>>28534376 (OP)Environmental protection regulations. I'm dead serious. Laws are on the books that make it impossible to manufacture or import utility vehicles that get good fuel economy and are large enough for work in agricultural/construction settings. American manufacturers have to exploit commercial vehicle loopholes in order to build trucks suitable for these roles. That's why we don't have things like S10s, Rangers, or T100/Hilux here, especially not diesel versions. The requirements are so outrageous (120+MPG, near-zero carbon emissions, etc...) that they cannot be built, and therefore cannot be sold. It sucks. I would kill for a brand new, small truck with a 4 cylinder diesel and good towing ability. They are illegal here. That's why I drive a pigfat Silverado, because a reasonably sized truck can't haul the trailer I use for work and definitely not the 6 horse trailer.
TLDR: our government is stupid and legislated car makers into only making huge, inefficient vehicles to protect the environment.
