killing the LX cars which was the best shit Dodge made was pants on head retarded. they should've continued producing those into the sunset. they were practically Dodge's panther body. people would've continued buying them no matter how outdated because they filled a niche no other car did and proved that americans still wanted RWD sedans that weren't luxury branded.

What'll really boil your bananas is these are starting at $54,000. Nobody is buying the basic bitch one upon debut so realistically these are $60,000 5000lb twin turbo I6 cars pushing 30PSI. The scatpack is $58,000 with the V8 model "coming soon".

I'm 100% confident they looked at performance figures of the prior charger/challenger, and looked at performance figures of the 400Z and Mustang GT and decided to price it according to the performance figures. AMD and nVidia do this with their graphics cards where they price stuff based on the performance, regardless of actual input cost.

That means the V8 version will be $80,000 cars (mid trim) and the hellcat redeye yes-we-do-finance street takeover edition will be $120,000.

the Pentastar is being revised for Wranglers and Rams, the Durango itself is on the way out.

It's being kept as an option, is what that press release says.

Reminder the EV charger weighs 5850 pounds with that 1200 pound or so battery and simple assumption puts the i6TT in the 5000s range.

Size of a medium sedan, weight of a crew cab truck.

GME platform handles 30psi pretty well as long as you change the oil at 5k instead of 10k
Anonymous No.28558933
>>28558872
I'm sure its fine, seems like the hurricane engine is receiving relatively decent reviews from the crate engines and initial enthusiast tests. Typical chrysler shit of electrical is the major problem, not the engine. 30psi for any production gasoline engine is a bit concerning every way you look at it. Then on top of it you have to rely on the average consumer to change the oil with full synthetic at 5000 miles when their last shitbox they just changed it whenever they felt like it be it 5k miles or 25k miles.

They had a golden opportunity to use Giulia platform as the basis for the Challenger and Charger. Would’ve knocked the weight way down and brought the chassis into the modern era. Revise the 5.7 and the 6.4 to maybe be aluminum, have both port and direct injection like the Coyote and bump the compression up along with usual changes to cams, heads etc etc. A ~3,800lb ScatPack would damn near be running high 10s to low 11s out of the box with a tire. Would’ve been so cool.

apparently people like having slow gimped farty pushrod v8s with the power density of a fucking vespa scooter and an inflated price to match, gee thanks joe and don you fucking tanbed-using faggots
the 3.6 has literally 2x the power density of the 5.7 and is 200 lbs lighter. you have to step up to 6+ liters to get the same kind of driving feel as a V6. even then the heavy iron V8 destroys the weight balance and ruins the car's handling so much an GR86 can beat a Hellcat Chally around a curvy enough track. people who buy the 5.7 because "muh vee ate" are literal casuals. v8 thumping is the automotive equivalent of playing fortnite or roblox.

Even if they keep the Hemi pushrod but update it like I originally posted, you’d have a solid performer. Not arguing against DOHC, I just highly doubt Stellantis/Dodge has the cash to spin up a completely new engine production line.

That seems be be the untold story of the engine. It makes more horsepower than most modern V8s while sounding like an I-6 (which isn't bad).

If dodge wasn't fully retarded, they'd sell the Hurricane crate engine for $9000 and watch people drop it in everything that'll fit it. That'll drive OEM sales because everyone watching their favorite youtuber roast v8 cars and put down respectable numbers at the drag strip will see the potential in a production car with that engine.

>The power density argument does nothing for real world performance

you are fucking retarded
look dude, go actually DRIVE the cars you're talking about instead of parroting boomer horseshit. power density is drivability.
it matters a lot. it's all about the engine's response to your input, and the Pentastar has an unmatched snappiness. the V8s do not have anywhere near that kinda feeling until you get into the supercharged cars. it's a night and day difference. the v6 is an actual honest to god sports car, the v8 drives like a my mom's old gen 1 v6 ford explorer.

a car's quarter mile time and 0-60 is totally fucking irrelevant when you can't even put all that power to the ground without turning the goodyears to vapor. a car's top speed is irrelevant when the heavy lump giving it that speed also ruins the handling to the point it can be beaten by a 4-cylinder subaru in a live test. if the hemi was an aluminum block like na LS that actually made more power than it weighs i'd have a different opinion but my guy the 5.7 is a true pile of shit.

Thats really not unreasonable for 450hp out of the box, and 700 with some tuning and mild bolt-on parts. Where else are you getting that, and don't say junkyard LS because that'd be $5000 for a clapped out piece of shit that needs $1000 in turbo, $1500 of repairs, and about 9 hours of cleaning/checking to get it to 700hp.

I've had a tech tell me that the Giorgio platform doesn't handle the torque that the HEMI puts out and that's why it was never used. Sounds like bullshit, but it does explain the insanely large STLA platform and LX platform of the past (The LX platform of course handling insane amounts of torque from the V12 Mercedes cars)
