dodges "new" engines are often first spotted in trucks and suvs. it's working that way again with the hemi coming back, even though if you count the rango it never really even left.
according to engineer interviews, actual pstar development started around the same time the LX was being finalized which would have been '03, '04. The project to replace the LH engines started in '99. people started actually hearing about it outside Chrysler in 2006, then there was a recession and chrysler went bankrupt, Cerberus tried to kill the Pentastar and buy VQs instead until it was proven the Pstar was both more efficient and cheaper to build, and the Pstar enticed Fiat to buy Chrysler and develop the Ferrari/Maserati F160 from it which ultimately lead to the Ferrari F163 120 degree V6 that just won Le Mans.
