Custom music for Whiplash is now possible
MIDI tracks must have no more than 8 melody channels and one drum channel
https://files.catbox.moe/kdncn5.zip

>download .mid from wherever
>use Timidity to check # of channels and note the tempo
>if necessary, remove/concatenate extra channels with FL Studio or freeware like MidiEditor
>convert to HMP in Dosbox with "midi2hmp [filename].mid /t###" where ### is the tempo information shown in timidity
>check listen with foobar, if tempo is off, use MidiEditor to correct tempo then reconvert

the original game is meant to run on a computer with barely 8 mb of ram so i'm not surprised
in Roller the div0 error no longer occurs because the game no longer runs out of memory while trying to crunch "big" numbers like player position when you get yeeted out of the track or triple-digit-kb midis

NFS Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, Hot Pursuit 2 or Porsche Unleashed specifically, but honestly the entire series is excellent

ok but when it comes right down to it, those games came out and the "good" stuff you apparently wanted just didn't exist ever. you have to hand it to them, they made racing games when other companies didn't and they are still good fun games even if they're janky and stupid sometimes. if you have no experience at all in the genre it's not a terrible place to start.

there were years where we got no racing games at all or it was just forza and the crew which similarly nobody wanted to play for being too soulless and corporate.
nfs 2015 sucked and they spent the next 8 years trying to fix it with new games on the same engine with the same content, only for the story to be DEI bombed repeatedly by retarded corpo-rats. go actually play unbound, it's fucking amazing. but even i can't stand listening to the characters yap, which is why i specifically said the selection of games i did

>and atmospheric storytelling? its a fucking racing game
yes you fucking two dimensional line i'm not here to hotlap for my own health. i want a reason to win the gremlin cup for zizin every year.
racing games that don't bore you with characters yapping or text but still manage to convey that they are part of a world with shit going on inside it are way cooler than games that don't try, like for example forza motorsport.
gran turismo simply having a main menu that is a map, or ridge racer being presented as an actual racing event taking place in a city that evolves over the course of several games are good examples of this.

Annoyingly i don't think it's just to do with mangled or unmangled filesize
I updated the mangler to be slightly less dumb than repeating the original bytes (totally not vibe coded) which gives filesizes approaching but not surpassing the gremlin devs' original 1000 IQ algorithm and it still gives errors even though I've verified the hashes of all unmangled->mangled->unmangled files. There's probably some other limitation I've missed like a maximum number of repeated bytes or something but idk

Braking late typically ruins your laptimes. Braking a bit earlier than your braking point will typically make you faster than doing it late, since your tires won't overheat and you'll have more grip. At least that's how it works in iRenting. It's also good for saving tire health in longer races where you can't afford to change tires.

Raceroom has a Gr 2 Scirocco, Gr 4 M1 & 934, Gr 5 320 Turbo, Chevy Corvette C3 & Monza, Capri, 935, Silvia and Skyline.
AMS1, rFactor etc. have Gr 5 mods like GTG5.
Power and Glory & GT Legends have 60s and 70s Touring and GT cars, Gr 2 & 4. GTL is based on a historic championship so it runs on modern tracks and for some reason the cars are scaled down(!).

I was surprised by the number of Gr 5 (and Gr 5 based IMSA) cars in FM7.

GT3s land in that sweet spot where the cars are relatively fast while being somewhat tame with mistakes, you also have a decent variety of manufacturers to pick from, the variety of cars in track and the ease of handling them makes the races more appealing to participate and watch, since you're not seeing the same ass painted differently for an hour

if you want 3d, Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 2 or IndyCar Racing 2.
