If you're looking for a durable tire, ZIEX is definitely the one, my rear tires are getting low now, but they were purchased Sept 2022 and I'm still driving on them, the tread is even worn down evenly and I've beat the shit out of them.

It's trending downwards likely because the country is in a recession and people can't afford to buy shit, but the 10th and 11th gen Civics are beautifully sized cars, civics were never really large enough to be used as a family vehicle until 2016, I'm almost concerned over the future of the Accord because as fuckhuge and lovely as it is, it's more money than a Civic, but it's not an Acura product, and the Civic is just so damn nice for what it is.

Posting this in case anyone ever looks through the archives of /hg/ as I did for a fix for gd3 honda fit eps or torque sensor issues.
If you have the issue where torque sensor relearns fail, or where your car turns itself all the way to one side, it’s due to a missing or corroded ground clip on your steering rack. You can check if this is your problem by reading the data on your hand scanner and seeing if even while the car is off, you get a constant negative reading from your torque sensor.
I first had this problem, then replaced my rack with a used rack. The problem persisted so i got a remanufactured unit.
There is a green wire attached to the rack and pinion which is clipped to your Fit (sometimes to the subframe) using a metal fastener. This actually acts as a ground. Without it, your torque sensor may not work properly, instead having the constant reading.
You may not need to replace your whole torque sensor if the traditional means for resetting the steering do not work. Check if you’ve lost this ground, and you may be able to jerry-rig a ground that will work, restoring your values and fixing your EPS.
Also of note is that in my case, there WAS NO EPS warning lamp.

Tires are from 2024 Feb and fine, I don't drive as much since I got a remote job in March. And they're continentals. Brakes got done earlier this year (rear) and last year (front). And I buy the powerstop drilled/slotted brakes. Also did Tranny fluid last year too. I think it's just oil changes and eventually new tires for a while.

Kinda a newfag to cars. I've done general maintenance like oil and other fluid changes to my car. Helped replace the stereo on some cars and other minor fixes. Been mulling over getting another car to use for longer drives and a partial project car. I currently drive a Nissan Altima, I know, and it's my only car. Looking around I found a 2017 Civic for 8500 and the owner says it was only in a minor accident. It only has 76k miles and that just seems too good to be true. Should I go for an older Honda, look deeper into this or is it just plain retarded to even look for a project car with little experience.

Guys I'm scared...
I recently 5 speed swapped my 7th gen Civic and it was driving and running ok-ish, although I did notice that there was some slugishness and the car would jitter at lower speeds...
Turns out, the auto parts store sold me an automatic driver side CV axle (NEVER TRUST A WOMAN) and my foolish ass thought that maybe it was normal for the cv axle to stop idk like 1/2 an inch outside of the differential
ffwd to a couple months later, and I keep getting this noise coming from whenever I let go of clutch or blip the gas pedal. Squealing and a clunking sound. I shrugged it off because I thought maybe a mount was worn but deep in the back of my shallow little mind I thought perhaps it could be the cv axle. Well, the noise started getting worse and worse, until it was painful to drive because whenever I was at full lock and taking off it would sound BAD
So I took off the axle and put it into the old 4 speed box; it goes in, but not all the way. Took off the circlip, it goes in ALL THE WAY
sure enough, running the numbers and looking at some photos, (based RockAuto had some dimensions) I determined that it was indeed an auto cv axle :(
Then I decided to look inside the tranny and I saw that the ends of the splines on the axle had cut into or marred the surface of the diff pinion shaft. I very much HOPE that all is going to be fixed and fine after I swap the axle, but still I'm so scared that my tranny is effed beyond saving...........

update: tranny is SAVED
Got the manual axle, installed it, it now goes all the way in, right up against the seal on the tranny. No leaks now, but it was still creaking, so I got under the car and tightened the mounts and subframe bolts. Turns out the front tranny mount on the EM2 has a nut on one side with a tab so it doesnt spin, when i was tightening mine down the first time, i didnt realize the tab had broke off, so I decided to do it later and forgot about it. No creaks, squeaks or squeals now and i'm happy.

I'm debating if I should move up to colder spark plugs based on my driving. I'm running a EDM EK Civic with a stock D15Z6, and I noticed the engine started pinging noticeably since I started driving more on highways, I think it might be spark plugs too hot for it. Current ones are the NGK ZFR5J-11's recommended by Honda, but on that they also say to move up to the colder ZFR6J's in warmer climates or if the car does a lot of highway driving.
I live in a southern Europe area that is quite warm, summers can get up to 40C/105F and even the absolute lowest in winter never drops below 0C/30F, I usually drive around 70 Km/45 miles daily, half of that on highways, and pic related is how the current spark plugs look, all 4 look about the same, it seems to me they might be running a bit hot. You guys think the 6J's would foul too much based on this?

I guarantee you that at least for EK's they don't. I got this car off an old guy that only went to church on Sundays (real find this one, '97 EK3 with real 142k Km, or around 88k miles), who still had the original manual for it, and it lists copper plugs as the recommended. Pic related.

If that's the case and it pings when the engine is heatsoaked, it is possible the knock sensor is getting old and pinging is happening, it is very possible that the sensor can still have voltage where it wouldn't throw a check engine light but the engine is still getting pings because the knock sensor has so much age and miles to it.

Holy fuck those are simple motors, if everything's in good shape, just put in the best fuel grade you can in there to minimize the pings and just drive it, Hondas are pretty resilient to pinging, and the compression radio is pretty low on the D15Z cars, it's not like you're running a 11.5:1 compression ratio Honda with shit fuel that demands premium and running that without a knock sensor, that would actually be pretty sketchy, but a SOHC economy engine that likes to lean burn should do okay with that low compression radio even without a knock sensor.

Funny thing is I already tried it, it still pings regardless with both the 95 and 98 fuel grades that we have here (I think the US grade equivalents are 91 and 93).
I've been testing quite a few things trying to chase a oil burning problem that appeared when I started driving on highways (1 litre/quarter of oil every 1500Km/1000 miles), though I have sludge buildup in the oil pan as a likely suspect. I had to clean the PCV valve after I found it clogged to hell and stuck open, which I know is a common cause of oil burning, and in only 2 weeks it clogged again. Also I know for a fact that in the 4 years before I bought it, it only drove 2000Km total, so the oil sludge theory seems more likely. Already have oil and filter in hand for a change tomorrow, gonna try a few quick oil changes to try and clean it up. In any case, I'm still convinced I should at least give the colder plugs a shot, since I think I do fit both scenarios where Honda recommends them.

Genuinely a frustrating install but worth it for sure. Lots of lifting and lowering the engine. I'm aiming for Bilstein struts and Eibach Pro Kit springs. Originally I was gonna go for BC Racing coils but you really don't need all that adjustment for a street car. It's overkill and servicing would be annoying.

I also found a Hybrid shifter nearby for only $200, less than half the price new. It was sitting in an EG hatch forever so the color faded but that doesn't matter because the boot covers the whole thing. Very crispy shifts now.

Yessir. I still got time to decide but it seems like the best route. For now though I'm waiting on some Megan Racing toe arms for the rear. Multi link rear suspension certainly isn't cheap to modify. Over $500 just to get things straight when lowered.

In other news, my homie got his UA running again. He found another chassis with less than half the miles (he's also in the 250k+ gang) for $800 with extreme under carriage damage. Drove it home and dropped both the engine and trans in his much cleaner chassis and he's finally driving again. His GF's auto K24 next to it.

A good body shop should be able to cinch that up unless the bumper cover is so damn broken that it's never gonna be clipped in right and would need to be replaced and a primed bumper cover purchased cheaply online and then painted, but even still no shop should be giving you guff about just wanting the bumper cover painted if it came to replacing that, I crashed the bumper myself and brought the primered bumper cover to them and they painted only the bumper cover and they installed it, didn't even sell me on blending joining panels and the car still turned out okay.

First two Sparco Terras arrived today, going to order the last two next week. I also found 10mm hub centric spacers so they won't look goofy af when mounted. Should be able to have everything on next month
