Am I retarded? Or is Nissan usa destroying everyone's electronic calipers and every single EPB needs to be recalled?

I had a discussion with a mechanic and there are really slim tiny adjustable wrenches he uses for these but since the hex is angled, you still are rounding out the flats?

These retards use a vice on every single EPB to change out pads and this is very soft metal so I imagine in our climate zone 6, everyone here will have their brakes rust even faster... Look at the picture, I opened the box and saw one pad fell out and since i paid 600 dollars, I said fuck it, they are putting it back in the caliper, not me, plus I was genuinely curious how a "pro" who charges 200 bucks an hour for their labour rate does it so I asked them to put it back in and you can see the vice grip marks lmao

If you are a mechanic changing pads out, do you really use vice grips?

A 17mm doesn't fit and a small adjustable plier will just slowly deform the nut over time? Am I missing something here?

What am I missing here?

This shit is so anti right to repair, luckily I have connections and can read, I just have zero clue on how the engineers intended for this to be replaced. I'm dying to find out how this should "professionally" be replaced. Using vice grips while you charge 200 bucks an hour is such a slap in the face

Thats the thing, I dont know if they are being retarded because they are saying a 17mm wrench, but I have a video I can upload, I tried every singe 17mm wrench I have and it doesnt fit... plus its angled, so even then, to me atleast, a open ended 6 sided wrench doesnt fit plus if it did, its soft angled metal that will damage over it over time..

its a rear EPB for an awd altima. brother, the master mechanic said it was a 17mm. But look at that photo, you can clearly see its angled and not a traditional hex.

also I have a video but heres a photo, sorry its shit, but I tried a fresh home depot husky 17mm and you can only get it 1/3 into the female end before you start to deform the surface since its angled.

are you referring to the caliper slide pins? yeah it looks like people nigger rig with some channellocks or something to keep it from spinning. the 2016 service manual doesnt even mention how to install them much less a special service tool or torque spec. if yours get fucked up just replace them

the bracket that the slide pins go into. its a nut that spins if you wanna break it loose so you do have to hold it, gets worse when its rusted i was told so trying to figure out what is the right tool to use.

im not to sure, its the first time ever changing these EPB calipers and the actuators were broken anyway and I had to buy a loaded caliper and the pads came already inside them so no point opening to check.

I bought this car as a winter communter for my wife and this is the first service interval for the rear pads at 30k ish miles

if it's stuck, it's probably because the retard who did the last brake service used lithium grease or something, so the grease will have hardened, get some pliers and yank on them.replace the pin, and use the right grease. (red rubber, or silicone)

So you're bitching about the caliper slide pins with an angled hex head too thin for your wrench? Get a cheap wrench, grind it thinner, and taper grind the jaws to fit snugly. Start with a 16mm if you need more meat to work with. Then once you get it fitting properly engrave the tools purpose on the handle and throw it in your specialty tools drawer for next time. Fucking kids I swear...

what OP is really missing is these pins are like four bucks for a new set if you do somehow fuck them up
but how often are nissan drivers getting new brake pads anyway?
I would bet the average owner might have their pads replaced once or twice, so the pin only really needs to hold up a couple times anyway
