But it's again enduro-ish. For example I don't want offroading, I need to get to another country 1.5k km away on a highway next year. So I'm forced to buy a sport tourer from 2000-2010s because I don't want to tour on naked and sport bikes. Alternative is to live the rest of the year with a heavy bike that I don't need.

If you just want a commuter/touring bike, just get the fucking versys or Transalp. 50lbs more than a Rebel 500, and both have good options for hauling your shit.

If you're obsessed with less weight, suck it up and settle for the Versys 300x, but you are basically exactly why they made the versys.

Hello guys, I want to buy a used bike, F850GSA, and this time it's from a used bike dealership. They seem like they are pretty reputed, they even encourage third party mechanic checking the bike before buying it, the thing is it's in a different city, I can't take my mechanic with me. In the past, while buying the used bike, I do the basic checks myself, then I ask the owner to bring the bike to dealership, the mechanic there checked it and he gave a go. But this time, I'm not sure I can take the bike from the used bike dealership to BMW's dealership. What do I do?

I'm planning to do these things myself:

Anons, would you add anything else to this list while checking to buy a used bike?

- check vin, engine number on the registration cert, owner id match
- cold start
- check if abs, TC and all the lights light up during start, ofc if they turn off post starting to ride
- Easy start, listen to engine sound, check if the fan comes on
- Check tyre wear pattern, uneven wear, tyre date of mfg, check if the tyre size is correct, same brand in front and back, check pressure
- Check if the brakes are fine, disc warping
- check if it rides straight without hands
- Check for oil leaks,
- Check for rusting in frame, forks, engine etc, handle bar ends, pegs levers, mirror, welds
- check the wires under the street
- Check the engine oil level, color
- Check if the engine coolant is filled to the brim, check if the cooling hoses are cracked
- Check the radiator fins
- Check if chain has been maintained, chain slack, check if the chain links are seized
- CHeck the sprocket health
- Pull the chain away from rear sprocket
- Check if the suspension has leaks, front and back, if stantion is dirty or has pitting, check if rear shock is shot
- Check brake pads life, check if all the pistons are pusing, check brake lines, check brake fluid level, check fluid color, check leaks
- check if the steering head bearing is good, front and back wheel bearing is shot
- sit on the motorcycle, push from front forks in, listen to bearing sounds, play, clunking, fork bushing
- check cable clutch freeplay, check if cable is smooth
- Check if the throttle return to close
- Check of turn signals, horns, tail light, brake light, from light works
- check under the seat.
- Check battery voltage more than 12.7
- check for loose bolts

You can buy a liter bike as your first bike as a teenager. Some states don't have helmet laws. There's a lot of Boomers that ride a thousand miles a year, if that so despite having 30 years of riding experience, they're pretty ass. And most of all, Europe doesn't suffer from the nigger problem like America does and outdated farm equipment has never had foresight and causal relationships as a strong suit.

like most things, they do it the retarded way
you can get a bike, any bike, after a fucking weekend "class". After a couple hours a young kid can go buy a turbo busa

In Europe for example (idk how it is in japan) you can ride a 50cc scooter at 14 if you take your riding permit (with classes).
You can then take classes to ride a restricted bike (48hp or less) when you are 18.
And only after 23 years old, after having been a 48hp rider since 18, can you get your unrestricted license.

And btw these licenses aren't just a weekend shit. It takes months. It has theory classes. It has riding classes, over 20 hours of riding over all sorts of conditions. Then you have exams for both theory and riding. For the riding exam you ride like 1 hour long where 2 instructors follow you around and if you do any mistake you gotta take more classes.

having said all this the reason for those statistics are obvious

general lack of driving education and less driving rules, plus the fact that everyone drives worse affects motorbike users disproportionally as what would be a minor crash in a car can be a fatality if a motorbike is involved, and motorbikes are at the behest of car users' mistakes too
The fact that in europe you have very twisty roads and also use manuals also probably forces you to pay more attention as a car driver and be less likely to kill a biker, and it also slow downs bikers with a deathwish
Anonymous No.28709479 [Report] >>28709549 >>28710369

in my country in Europe it works this way
>15 year old
AM License: Max 45cc (expect 50kph/30mph top speed)
>16 year old
A1 License: Max 125cc and 15bhp, no sidecar allowed (expect 100kph/60mph top speed)
You automatically can ride A1-limited bikes after owning a regular car driving permit for 2 years.
>18 years old
A2 License: No cc limit, 48 bhp limit and 0,2kW/kg limit. You can buy a higher bhp bike with a limiter and still use it with this permit.
>20 years old, after having had A2 license for 2 years
A license: No cc limit, no bhp limit. You still need a written test, its not given automatically for A2 holders after 2 years.

>You automatically can ride A1-limited bikes after owning a regular car driving permit for 2 years.
I was gonna use this shit as a car driver but turns out regulations like this are countries specific and not general for EU although I remember every dog boasting how "homogenized EU laws are". So here I am taking ridiculously expensive classes to ride a motorcycle and doing the tests. Again. After already knowing the rules.

How on earth would you check that bolts aren't loose?

what you can add/improve:
- check plastic fairing for cracks (especially where it's bolted to the frame)
- check for engine oil leaks, more specifically on the underside of the engine (drain bolt, oil filter, oil pan seal) and where the shifter goes into the casing
- check for gunk on/near the front sprocket
- check chain slider for ware and gunk
- check for chain alignment and frozen/tight links

I see these conversations all the time and the concept feels very alien to me but that's because I love in Texas and it's damn near impossible to get anywhere without a motorized vehicle. I do see some scooters and e bikes in the not populated areas and public transport is getting better here but it's a small segment of the population. I'm all for it though. The streets are way too crowded so less drivers is a good thing for us.

>unc stigma
Only with certain types of bikes. Majority of them are actually aura farms
>not as many young people ride them
Hey dipshit, guess what that means. That means YOU STAND OUT. Aka more aura.

Aura farm bikes
-Sport bikes, either cool dude or cringe af with massive egos there is no inbetween.
-Crusier bikes, either chill dude or mega puritan/control freak there is no inbetween
-Naked bikes, either a chick bike or manlet bike.
-Sport Tourer, old guy dominant but many STs got crazy aura like vfr, busa, zx14, XX, etc VERY rare to see young riders on them
-Cafe racers, you will be known as a hipster or gay there is no inbetween.
-Dual sport/Enduro, you will be interpreted as broke and old.
-ADV bikes, Negative aura, this is the unc-cycle incarnate even moreso than crusiers.

It all depends what bike you are on really, but end of the day any motorcycle adds aura because there are only a chosen few to take the reigns of a steel steed.

I've used silicone dielectric grease on bike parts for many years, especially harness connectors, battery cable hardware etc. That's what it's for and it also makes excellent anti-seize for parts like hand control screws and cable adjusters. Then perform a charging system test by starting the bike then noting running voltage at the battery. A vehicle may have a charged battery but that doesn't always mean the charging system works as it should. Verification takes a few seconds.

Download (preferably the factory) a service manual beforehand so you know exactly what to inspect. Get any factory parts catalog too as they complement the service manuals. It never hurts to research your prospective purchase,

Many used bike electrical problems are simple to fix but sellers may not know that.

Do you mean like the undertail exhaust? I don't think those really showed up until like the 90's? It wouldn't really work on the RS since it's supposed to be a 70's LARP. But I agree they look awesome. My guess is they just cost more to produce so a lot of manufacturers cheaped out. Some Ducati's and MV's still have them, kind of, but not as integrated to the tail as my old FZ6. Maybe newer cats run hotter too, which would add to the problem.

- slight engine oil seepage on the left side of the head, near the gasket
- horn button makes the light blink
- Chain is a bit loose, not lubed, atleast to my eyes.

The wr450r doesn't exist. The wr450f does. The wr450f is basically a YZ motor with different cams. It isn't meant to live very long between rebuilds. If I had to pick a dual-sport 450, I'd pick a crf450L, vortex ECU and decat exhaust, and then follow oil changes/valve checks RELIGIOUSLY, and it would live a very long time. I believe only Honda divorces the gearbox and engine oil in their 450 motor and that gets a lot of points for reliability.

Always look at your kick stand before setting it down.

ADVs are more comfortable for some because they have a rider triangle that (1) relaxes the legs and (2) allows for controlled riding while standing, much moreso than rearsets.
