Oh, I thought you were talking about reels. You can influence your algorithm by sharing and interacting with the content you like. I've found that DMimg someone content is pretty effective if you want to train your algorithm to see similar content.

No, I use a browser version since I'm trying to avoid everything Meta, so I never see reels thankfully. I keep IG for social reasons and not knowing where else to share photos (besides /rpt/ threads).

I still get about 60 notes a day. Big trending meme posts get over 100k notes in a day so the platform is still decently sized.

For tumblr use groups, so more people can discover your art. For me, it is the best social network, where the emphasis is not on the artist (influencer), but on art.

Okay, serious question - should I make Instagram account if I simply upload stuff to my own site, running on Wordpress? When I was doing photos at anime convention some time ago, many people asked me for Instagram or how to "tag" me on social media, one performance group suggested making IG account because they considered my photos really good. Then again, I'm a bit afraid of this whole "war against algorithms" and tons of guides about how to upload, comment and post on IG to avoid being pushed into oblivion by IG.

Don't care about algorithms, just use it for sharing and being happy if it does get seen by chance. If you're doing anime conventions and all that, an IG is absolutely essential, since they will follow you on it and word of mouth can help your page spread further.
