>posed "candids"
>staged "decisive moment"
>spray and pray, then select the ones where chance gave you "the shot" and call it art
Is street inherently dishonest?

Yes, it's all a sham. He paid that child pocket change to carry the painting in that manner and compose the shot at the right moment. Street is fraudulent in essence. A fiction sold to sheep whose own wool is pulled over their eyes.

That's the thing, the only "merit" it has is that it's cool for a snapshit. But it's not even a snapshit, it's pretending to be one. It has FAKE written all over it.

as a rule of thumb, any statements about art on /p/ should be ignored. maybe 1% at best of posters demonstrate a practical understanding of art. mostly the word is used whichever way it can insult a particular genre, brand, or whatever online tribe.

I prefer reality and obviously staged comedic shots. I remember watching some uninspiring documentary about street photographers in New York where one photographer who was unironically a homosexual started blabbering about his traumatic childhood and whatnot.. The reason he was interviewed is because he won a price or something and he of course proclaimed that his award winning photo was authentic. The photo in question was a landscape orientation photo of a fag standing in one end holding a blue digicam and across the road was a blue triangular pattern painted on the wall stretching horizontally and at the end of it there was a woman so it looked like the fag was photographing the woman with a huge blue beam shooting out of his camera.

For some reason I imagined street photographers were scrappy, low income, hardy, honest, manual labourer types that wanted to show the world where they lived and the people around them
Turns out streetfags are hyper rich trust fund babies who talk about how gear doesn't matter while owning 3 leicas and taking pictures of vintage cars in LA

>gear doesnt matter
>how can anyone feel limited by a canon g7x
>when i feel limited by my canon g7x i use my leica m10
>and when i feel limited by my leica m10 and want to slow down and focus on quality i get out my hasselblad
>and when i find my hasselblad too slow i bring my sony a1
>but i took prefocused shots of skateboarders going back and forth on the hasselblad once (only used 10 rolls of ektachrome) so gear doesnt matter
>you can still take great photos with what you have

the only difference between this and an "authentic" street shit is that the "authentic one" took dozens of hours to setup using carefully selected actors, perfect coordination, state of the art lighting
none of the good street photography is real
it's just faked to such an extent it seems real

Yes, I've become intimately familiar with the human condition for quite some time. A large percentage will lie, cheat, steal and pee in the public pool no matter what you try to teach them about morality and acceptable behavior. I think with the emergence of AI a lot of those who have been in their slumber when it comes to all of this, thinking "oh it's not so bad" are finally starting to see through the veil because now they will have to question and not blindly accept because of how persistent the usage is.
This reminded me of a famous photo of the previous king of Norway who the press called "Folkekongen" meaning the king of the people as if he was a regular human being because of photos such as this when he in 1973 took the tram during the "oil crisis" instead of using his limo. Lots of rumors about him circulating in the grapevine and in those days such things were much easier to suppress. In my opinion a staged photo, but sold to the masses as a random snapshit from a professional photographer who just happened to be there.

He's pondering whether or not the dishonesty of street photography is an inherent quality of it. It's the inherence that's being debated, not the dishonesty *itself*.
Anonymous No.4445900
Between fashion and street, I have zero doubts that street is the more fraudulent of the two. Because it actively attempts to pass what's fake as the truth. At least fashion is honest about it being a bubblegum fantasy.
