What cameras would you recommend, that fit on a pocket and have better image quality than Iphones?

I will be using it mostly for printing photos to place on memory albuns, and maybe like 1 or 2 profile photos...I have a thing that I hate when the eyes are out of focus or blurry in photos, so I think portrait capacity would be important.

Preferably if it's under 600 used and if it has interchangeable lens, even better

nikon z30 is similar size to x100 and easily available for under $500 body only, or under $600 with the kit lens.
Be aware, it doesn't have an EVF.
The total size (and cost) will depend on the lens you select, but there are some compact 3rd party lenses quite cheap, and the kit lens is small (won't have nice blurry background though).

Also to clarify, APS-C at f/3.5 is equivalent to a modern large sensor smartphone like the S25Ultra or iPhone 16 Pro, in terms of natural bokeh/background blur, but will have much more detail, and no baked in sharpening (as long as you shoot RAW).
If you want more blur, you will need a wider aperture lens, f/2.8, f/1.8 etc.

You can also get the nikon z50 for a similar price, and it has an EVF. It's a little bigger because of the EVF on top.
You can use camerasize to compare the size of anything you might be considering.

But if you just want best bang for buck, then yes, an older FF DSLR will probably be your best bet.

FF DSLRs are all huge by nature, no getting around it. I prefer Nikon, so for me it would be the D800, but the 5D Mark II is also good.

But like this >>4440572 anon said, mirrorless with the RP, or maybe A7II is your only real option if you want FF that's not huge, and potentially under your budget.

Rule 1 of asking /p/ about gear: Most gear suggestions you get are disingenuous. Brand fanboys are cultish here. They will lie to you to try and "score one from the team".
Rule 2 of asking /p/ about gear: Everyone who is not a brand fanboy is hysterically against anyone owning nice things ever and will insist you do not need more than some POS ewaste.

I strongly recommend you save up more money and buy yourself a nice camera. Full frame is an expensive proposition. There's no getting around it.

They encourage you to buy a bad camera
And then they start recommending micro four thirds

It's also cultish but yeah, autistic.

A lot of people will also lie to you insisting that cameras that beat their favorites are somehow not options. They will even make shit up and post fake photoshopped comparisons.

He says while comparing a $1500+ setup with (somehow) a worse lens, to a $600-700 setup.

The RP was suggested because it was potentially within $100 of his $600 budget.
And not only is it not "ewaste", but coming from a phone he's unlikely to gain much of anything from the a7C, and if he can't afford it, he'll gain nothing at all.

They always look like shit unfortunately, without any pixel peeping.
The moment a photo has any amount of random detail (leaves, grass, complex patterns) it turns into weird watercolor slop from the shitty phone processing/compression.
The weird slop/wormy compression artifacts give away phone photos way more than aperture effects or anything else.

Not anymore. Most phone sensors are the same size or larger than compact camera sensors, coupled with f/1.8 or better lenses.
Some even have 1 inch sensors, and a lot of the ones that don't, it's because the smaller sensors perform better, not because they couldn't use them

But I do agree about the sharpening and processing, it's most of what makes phone pictures look like shit.

Sony is a premium brand. They haven't released a lens that costs less than $800 in a long, long time. Those old lenses predate their new business strategy. Canon releases lenses that cost less than $800 all the time, and in terms of build and optical quality, they're bad.

The RP also has a genuinely bad sensor that performs exactly like a cheap a6000. And no IBIS. It's not even a contest. The RP's actual competitor is a $350 a6000.

100% cotton rag paper is like a dollar as well. It's a little more expensive than standard photographic paper, but I like how it looks, have fun with the process, and the permanence of plat/palladium prints is exceptional. 200+ years type permanence.
The kit came with some extra chems required for the process, so if I restock on bottles of the emulsion stuff it will be cheaper.
Worth it for egg prints.

If you want really cheap large format prints/negatives go with glass wetplate colloidion. You can get 8x10 negatives for like 3 dollars a pop. If you want to turn a negative into a print you can just spray paint the back with black paint.

Spamming faked green skin comparisons, trying to make statistically insignificant "issues" sound worse to claim the cameras are unusable, and posting outright lies all the time, i'd call that a hate campaign, due to a brand fanboy really disliking that without his bullshit, sony is a better option than what he'd prefer to shill. I own 3, they're not creaky or flimsy. They're solid and made of magnesium. Why do you lie?

You know what is creaky and flimsy? My E-M5III, the gx9 it replaced, the x-t5 i tried and sent back, and the x100vi my gf keeps in her purse. I thought the ZF was poorly made due to its cheap plastic baseplate, but the x100vi feels like a toy compared to it. Even the dials are more plasticky than the olympus pasm dial.

So I gotta wonder. Is this just a fanboy for another brand, lying to try and convince someone that sony isn't an option? Whats next are we going to see the same 10 pictures of the same 10 broken a7iiis over and over again?

Sony cameras are pretty solidly built, but the buttons they use are smaller and shallower, their LCDs and EVFs can be a bit worse below the flagship line, and they go easier on the contouring to keep the bodies compact (this practice is getting split into another product line apparently)

The D750. It feels like it's most plastic. And it turns out, the lens mount is actually plastic.

As far as I'm aware most camera manufacturers attach the lens mount to a magnesium alloy frame... even the cheapie a7c had the lens mount attached to metal...

For how much /p/ focuses on build quality no one ever shit talks nikon, even though their sub-pro cameras are legit creaky and F mount was notorious for extremely shitty feeling focus rings.

What I have experienced this wobbly, plasticky shit with is olympus "m. zuiko pro" zooms. Both my 12-45 f4 and 12-40 f2.8 came straight out of the box with zoom wobble bad enough to make doing video with the lenses extended... inadvisable. The lumix kit lens (yes, the 12-32 that falls apart) is somehow more solid, optically.

Either
1) you just outed yourself as a cargo shorts wearing autistic nerd, or
2) you just outed yourself as a fucking retard that doesn't realize that cameras are useless without lenses.
The grip+viewfinder on the a6500 alone disqualifies the camera as pocketable for non-autists. With lens you'll even struggle to fit it in a typical jacket pocket, outside of two mediocre lenses. And one is absolute shit.

Also if OP used a Sony in public they'd be outing themselves as autistic.

Leica sets their sensors deep enough for M mount to have actual pancakes.

No japanese mirrorless does. Canon and nikon have cope f2.8 pancakes that vignette 3 stops and focus breathe from 28mm to 35mm, and it's meaningless because they only make blobs.

An M9 with a replaced, corrosion-proofed sensor is the best FF travel camera under $4000

Sony's lenses are generally smaller and higher quality than canons and nikons. The RF f1.4 L lenses, for example, are a fucking joke, and Z and RF zooms are huge and just worse. It seems they won't release a pancake yet because they don't want to join the cope club of pancakes that are literally unusable for video. The Z and RF pancakes focus breathe like hell and make noise while focusing. They have the only FF bodies that would theoretically be pocketable with a pancake lens so I'm guessing they're waiting until they can get it right for 70% of customers - AKA video peeps.

Small lenses on RF and Z are a fools errand. The cameras are large. It doesn't matter.
