Nikon's Capture NX-D version 1.6.4
Does anyone have this in their archive? Nikon's move to give its customers the dry shove and forcibly remove all installs of previous software from the entire internet (even archive.org) left us all relying on whatever we had already downloaded, but I just went to copy it off my horrendous spinny drive, watched it hang, and in a moment of ass-brain superposition, connected my backup to pull it from, which then immediately hung too. You know the rest, refused to unmount for 6 hrs, hard shut down, came back up & all drives lost their TOC's & recovery is fragment soup. Oh Apple, how I love to hate you sometimes.

If anyone has Capture NXD 1.6.4 to upload somewhere, you have a rare artifact that everyone with a rare 17" MBP needs to make use of our sexy classic computors, and I will offer all the gross sloppy disgusting oral sex you can bear to stomach, or very a sincere thank you, your choice.

Yep. Couple years ago they pulled all their previous softies from their site, refused to give out download links via email, and then issued legal threats to archive.org etc. When you contact them to ask where you can get an installer they tell you to buy a new computer. MF I have new computers, they're busy doing more critical shit than my photo hobby, which can be done just fine on an older machine. They dgaf, their software division is determined to the achilles heel of the company.

I will say even if Canon DPP is a bit dated and not the best for NR / recoveries, it's consistent and works without fucking around. Decent software considering it's free.
I'd love to hear the rationale from Niggon about nuking older software; just slap a "we no longer support this version" on it and be done with it. How many thirdies are using computers from the late 00's still?

Yeh, I don't know how that's STILL up, Macupdate must be hosted on one guys nokia cellphone in a Nigerian internet cafe or something. But 1.6.5 was the breaking point, dropping support for High Sierra, the final OS for all the years of Unibody Macs, the most popular gen ever. The 17" sold primarily to photogs & graphics professionals, bc were ungodly expensive (but very very nice). ...those are the longest running MBPs, bc they were so spendy, completely servicable and upgradable, run Win XP/7/10/11 & MacOS just as easily, they're the swiss army knives of the MBP world. and sure they're old so they're outdated on paper ...unless you got one, and then you know they punch above their weight. Every newer gen has faster chips, albeit slower with more cores to run at lo temps, but all these fucking apps are still just using the first core anyway, so these older speedier clock models run surprisingly well single core. More importantly, they're great to have your entire photo library on up to 16TB of internal storage, the useful ports, the jumbo hi-res anti-glare display, and leveraging the processing capacity of the second GPU for more intensive CPU duties, etc. That's why they're used for lighter duty uses like photo & 2d work. I had to dump 8k on a big beastly CAD workstation for work this year. Nikon's like F U you you pleb, throw that MBP that worked for photography perfectly fine a week ago in the trash and spend yet another $3000 on a new notebook too, that's smaller, less modular & more disposable. F that noise, anyway, when you buy a 2019 Z7 you also buy the 2019 software that makes it work with your computer, and when it does, but then the company pulls the fucking rug out arbitrarily is a dick move.

Is that on the disk that came with all old nikon cameras and does it have to be that specific version? I might have it but I can't be fucked looking if it's unicorn shit.

Mojave is still the high point for OS X Stability and functionality, High Sierra was the last OS before Mojave, and the last one with no new features, just a focus on stability and reliability. >loling at High Sierra or Mojave

They used to. Then sales slumped and the talk of the town was that older apple fans still prefer their older full featured macs. So in January of this year Apple decided to go evil and informed devs they were going to change the app store & shut previous versions down, screwing their users out of their purchased software. All those Final Cut Pro & Logic purchases, kiss em goodbye. They decided it was worth the risk of losing some percentage of customers to force the rest off their old hardware on to new macs. Old macs still spank new macs in every way but raw chip speed, but instead of Apple making macs better to compete with the old, they doubled down and made the company itself worse.

...Not that it matters, every semester, the cute girls will still buy them and the guys that want to get with the cute girls will too, and they'll continue to fund whatever the fuck Apple wants to do with their student loans, at interest, for the rest of their lives.

It's just a macfag not upgrading his planned obsolescence OS

Eh, I don't care about new software not working on old hardware, but Apple suprise-sabotaging peoples ability to use the original software they bought, that worked and still works, because they incorrectly assume that we don't also own the new shit, is a rip off.

For instance, evaluated objectively next to the shiny & new M1s I bought for the office, (ok I skipped the M2s), then got a dozen absolutely pointless fucking M3s, then built myself a new monster PC, I've bought enough of this shit to float these overpaid fucks, I don't owe them shit. But the sad reality of it is, when going to hit the road for a week out west & bring one machine to do everything, for people who own the 17's, it's the 17" every time, bc it's the only machine that does everything and does it that well, they're just that much nicer to use, especially if you're also going to need to run Windows, & also need to interface with CNC machines and all manner of other horseshit. At any rate this isn't about why people continue to use the tools they bought, its why these programmer fucks think it's cool not to just cut their customers off after a warranty period like everyone does, but go out of their way to break their customers purchases expressly so they can't keep using the product they bought.

Nikon definitely noticed the issue they created because it was an abrupt decision they made with their CS reps refusing to give out links, sending everyone bitching up a storm back & sharing installers when they did it, followed by a statement instructing customers to go hunt for their missing software on 3rd party websites. That's where you're supposed to get your software older than the current release from. Want to keep using your nice hardware, prepare thine anus for some stronk russian malware. Software has always been the worst aspect of Nikons camera biz, so this really shouldn't be surprising, we just accept this.

NX Studio isn't allowed to install on Mac OS's older than 2019.

when ur thinkbad runs os x lemme know'

you think this shits bad, try downloading an old version of Adobe's shitware They only "support" (which means lol nothing now anyway) the current version and 1 previous version, and took down all the other installers & killed their FTP access to previous versions too. All the links to earlier versions of even freebies like Camera Raw or Bridge have been removed from everywhere, deal links to them strewn all over their support site, and inquiries for them are ignored or given a proper FUCK OFF in response. It's choke on our hacky ai-riddled shitware or suck dicks, but either way we've got your fucking money for the next year so we could not give a fuck less what any of you think.

Man these are garbage companies.

Literally just install windows on your macbook. All of a sudden, new software will work. That's it.

Go to /g/. Figure out how to get the latest W10 IOT LTSC. Google how to install that version of windows on your macbook model. Wala. Your macbook will be able to run up to date software again.
