Am I retard if I buy the Sony FX3 for shooting video for my music projects? I bought my Canon R8, but I bought it with the intention of shooting photos and now I'm more interested in shooting a music video for my next project. It seems the Canon R8 works but the Sony would be great in low light situations. I'm a one man band so I need as much as convenience as I can get when it comes to features.

I'm not a videographer by any means but to get the level of video I want will likely cost me around $4k for a single video if I hire someone and I figure I can just power through (obviously I won't reach professional level for years but I've found that being in control of the the ideas and editing I can get decent results as opposed to having to deal with some time boxed project with a hired person who won't meet my autistic vision in the end anyways, nothing worse than hiring someone and realizing that its going to fall short of your creative vision midway through).

So with all that said, is the Sony FX3 a killer camera thats plug and play that will offer awesome quality if we assume I have good creative ideas and source material? ($4k is not a massive deal to me if its worth it, but if the quality and convenience is only going to be marginally better than I can easily achieve in the R8 then maybe its a bad fit). Lastly, I will be hiring a colorist in the end so just need something that will get me good footage. I will be doing non coloring editing myself.

Get a cheaper used camera like an A7SIII or something.

Strange, I've seen them around for about $2800.

I'm referring to them new, but I can't imagine used would be any different. Honestly would rather buy the FX3 for its ability to withstand higher temperatures.

Mixing gear in general is a bit of a bitch to deal with, both while shooting and in post - another set of lenses, mixed up color science, remebering different menus.
Shit ends up a lot of work and money especially if you work solo.
Maybe check out Canons offering first? Like C70 or R5C? Alternatively loan a kitted out FX3 for your next project and see how you like it.

Lots of newcomer photo and videographers are very much averse to loaning and I get it - it's nice to work with your own gear, but unless you shit money you'll never be as versatile and up to date as someone who loans his gear.
Plan ahead, rent what you need when you need, compliment with gear that you have.

Rather get a Sony a7iii (or IV) or a fx6 if you can afford it
