These are specialized pieces of equipment called "mental cameras" and are used by the upper echelons of photographers.
Basically, they have trascended the mortal concept of having to record an image somewhere, and instead take the pictures mentally in their head, feel an extreme ans orgasmic sense of accomplishment, and go on with their life

Directors viewfinder
You can attach a lens and get an idea of how things will look with that particular lens, so you can plan the scene's framing, etc

I use when I'm walking around with a view camera so I can explore composition/framing without having to move a tripod+view camera.
