Is it faster to just use the SD card reader instead of plugging my camera into the PC? At the very least I think it will save battery.

>check the max read specs of your SD card
>check the max transfer rate of your pc USB port
>check the max transfer rate of the chink shit you bought
>check the max transfer rate of your camera usb
>if pc or sd card is the slowest of the list, everything will be the same otherwise take the faster option between the camera and chink shit.
Chances are that the chip in the Chinese thing is similar to the one on your camera

most people on this website are autistic and cant discern genuine questions, sarcasm, or a joke.
I wish what i jusr said was a joke but sadly most people on this website do not have friends in real life and this, likely along side discord are their primary forms of social interactions

also yes you should be using an sd card reader. I thought everyone did

I don't like taking the sd card out a lot as I feel like it will wear off the connectors faster so I just plug the camera into the computer when I don't use the wifi app.

you prefer wearing out the usb connector then? holy based

Yes because usb ports are more durable than sdcard slots and cards. You risk more damage to the camera and the card constantly screwing around opening doors, disengaging the card, inserting the card into a reader, pulling it back out opening the camera back up, inserting and loading the card and closing the door.
All that will cause more wear and potential damage than: Plug in cable. Unplug cable.

Transfer via plugging in my camera is much much faster than that specific SD card reader.

You literally just need to know the specs of the USB ports you're using and the SD Card reader you have.
If you're using a card reader, the reader and the card need to be up to spec otherwise you're throttling yourself somewhere (i.e. doesn't matter if the reader is UHS-II if the card isn't even UHS-I spec)
Same thing if you're using a cable. If your camera port is USB 3.2 but the cable you use is 2.0 you're going to get max 480Mb/s.

>USB 2.0 is 480Mb/s
>USB 3 (3.2 gen 1) 5Gb/s
>UHS-I Reader 104MB/s (so 8x to work out Mb, which means about 840Mb/s)
>UHS-II Reader 312MB/s ( " " , which means about 2500Mb/s)

I personally bought a UHS-II reader because it's less cables the better.

I use a USB-C reader that does CF, SD and a few others you can get them at Best Buy

If you aren't shooting 1000 images a day at some event or something, none of this matters really but as cheap as readers are you would be stupid not to use one.

I just come home and my camera uploads to the cloud via WiFi. Nikon Imaging Cloud is nice when you set it up properly.
Tooks longer but I usually don't edit/cull my images the same day I take them so I don't care. When I want to edit them they're on my NAS
I upload RAWs to image cloud and that sends them over to dropbox. On my NAS a script just auto-moves RAWs from dropbox into the proper folders.

USB 3 is so fucked with their standards. It's almost impossible to sort out without a current chart. They keep changing the industry standards for it. At any rate, your advice is great for people who are tech illiterate.
