I did the latter. I’ve had some real pieces of work as roommates/housemates (the worst one went on a bender and tried to kill me once), but overall it hasn’t been too bad. Managed to save and invest some money, so I’ll be fine if my car breaks down or become unemployed for a while, but there’s no way I’m ever saving up enough for a home, and all I’ll probably inherit from my retard boomer parents is boxes of hoarder trinkets and debt.
