I think the books of old testament are not all about the same god. God in old testament says contradictionary things, because its not the same god. First two book of moses tell a story of a different god, and possibly different tribe. The later writings could be also revisions to try to change bad customs, like the human sacrifice. It's all lost, because they refyse to name their god, and use euphemisms.

In Judges 11:30

Ironically to pretend that hell is some sort of underworld of fire. It isn't. The greek authors of the NT were well aware of and reference hades for example, but it isn't the same place. It just a kind of symbolic threat that it would be as if your mortal remains were buried in Gehenna (i.e., the place God despises more than any other). They also pretend that you "go to heaven" even though this isn't in the Bible either unfortunately.

The big J. is pretty clear what happens when you die - you are dead. At an unspecified point in the future he'll raise you and there will be heaven on earth.

Actual heaven isn't a place you would wish to go, even full on highly qualified and favored prophets freak the fuck out at even the smallest glimpse of it.
