Getting a bit deeper into this, the worst reality of a late stage demographic collapse(what you pointed out as the date when things get "bad enough) is that even if you start producing kids at an extremely high rate, you're still stuck with a lot of old people for a very long time and now you have to take care of both the surplus children from the boom and the old as well.

Human nature dictates that the older age brackets will definitely use every social capital that they have to maximize what they can extract so they will just strangle the working age population which will most likely keep the birth rates down as well. It's a self-destructive loop, a downward spiral.
