If a politician started basing their official decisions on their astrological Zodiac sign, horoscope, Tarot card readings, or tea leaves, we would see them as crazy. Why don't we see it as equally crazy when they base their decisions on religious faith?

Because there is no such thing as separation of church and state. Human beings are designed to worship something greater than themselves. Words on a 200+ year old document can only do so much to control human behavior.
