They work if you’re operating in an environment where you have the infrastructure to handle their weight. It’s an armored car you can put a gun in and it has great protection. The problem is the majority of the roads in Afghanistan (at least where I was) are glorified goat paths. We willingly restricted where we could patrol and the enemy knew it. From there it pretty much turned into a question of how many artillery shells strung together does it take to crack the hull.
