At high speed the material the projectile is made of becomes less important. Mass is mass regardless of what specific material. When a plane slams into a building at 500mph, all that momentum is not going to simply vanish. One might think the columns would cut slice the plane into ribbons, but there is a limit, at 500mph there is just to much material coming at the columns to be deflected around them so it smashes through.
