I neutered my dog much later in life, he was around 5 or 6. I have a female dog now who is not spayed and she is about 4 years old now. I think it's better to spay/neuter later in life. I think dogs, and probably most other mammals, have some sort of puberty that allows their body and minds to develop.

Most dog owners are retarded and irresponsible and get dogs without any intention of actually exercising it regularly, feeding it quality meat or socialising with other dogs and humans.

The main concern is overpopulation of dogs; that's why all rescues and veterinarians encourage neutering and spaying: to control overpopulation. Dog rescues are mostly full and still in the US about a thousand dogs are euthanized daily for being homeless and not adopted on time.

For a female dog wait until several months after their first heat to have them spayed, and for male dogs wait until they are 2-3 before neutering. If you do it any earlier than that their bones won't fully develop and they will experience joint problems as they grow old.
