>>508725501Its not so bad if you are young and in good health.
Important to know some basic skills, but they dont take long to to acquire. Its surprising how much you can do with just a little gear, and how comfortable you can make yourself with a little practice.
Did it for three years myself.
Would do it again if the need arose, but I am older now and like my home comforts too much.
Now here is the thing. After investing a relatively small amount you can save a fuck ton of money by camping it. Think of all the money spent on rent or mortgage, and utilities.
There is a soft approach too, you dont have to go deep innawoods, you live on the fringes of a town where you can easily resupply when needed, and seek medical attention if shit goes south. The important thing with the soft approach is not to stand out, and be somewhat devious, you never want people to know where you are camping out or what you are doing. The moment you get spotted is the moment you need to move.
Another soft approach is part time. I knew one guy who would go bush 6 months over the summer, then return to live as a normie, work and live in a city for the other 6 months over winter.
Of course all this sounds just fine, but its highly dependent on shit like your finances, what sort of job or benefits you have, how densely populated your area is, access to water, and the local climate.

I have heard of only one long term community that has succeeded. But I am sure there are many more that simply fly under the radar ( deliberately so ).
