I literally watch my dog do this often. It kills and then eats it. It doesn't keep it alive for hours on end consuming it's flesh as it watches.

Very few animals will keep something alive as they actively eat it.
You should of said cat. My cat is a fucking demon. It brought a wild bird into the house and make it scream so I'd come and look at what was going on. It then snapped it's neck right in front of me and walked out the door.
