We are only credited as having sought after God not because we ourselves sought Him, but because He came to us and declared His word to us.

The word is quite clear that baptism is the answer of a good conscience before God. It's not a regular bath, like one that washes filth off the flesh. Baptism is truly salvific.

It's what the flood in Noah's day was testifying of. They were saved through water by being in the ark. Just as those who are baptized into Christ are saved through water and placed in Him- the true ark.
