Giving up weed
18 year smoker. Always been 'addicted' in the sense that I want more and to be high often but I feel like my life has been cool until the past few years - and its proven to me that when push comes to shove I feel like i have no discipline and need to quit cold turkey. Can anyone relate or share their experiences either way?

Expect to have constant panic attacks. It's manageable, but the symptoms will subside after a few weeks to a few months, depending on how much usage. It sucks because if you've never experienced them you'll think you're having a heart attack.

Eat whenever you want to get high. The "withdrawal" only last a few days. Quitting nicotine is way way harder.

I smoke off and on for 25 years. You think you need it but there is no physical withdrawal like nicotine and beer that's all in your head. You'll be lethargic without the high for a couple of weeks then you'll just be normal. I go months and years without it. When you lose your tolerence completely and try it again it won't be enjoyable and you have to use low doses until for awhile until it will give you that high again. I can make an ounce last for a year by one hit quit before bed when I play vidya, watch tv, have sex.

The only reason to use it at all in enhancing sex IMHO. The arousal you get is just too good.

just a tip - don't think quitting weed will magically give you discipline. It may be hindering your executive function but don't think it's the only reason you're lazy or whatever. Otherwise you'll just go back to smoking weed when you realise quitting wasn't the silver bullet.

This absolutely is not a thing with weed. More like alcohol and benzos. Not once have i ever had a panic attack because I didn't smoke pot. I have had panic attacks immediately after smoking weed, but never when abstaining from weed. Alcohol withdrawal will give you panic attacks and so will benzo withdrawal. I have never heard of this with weed. People that have panic attacks with relation to weed typically have one when they get too high.

I recently quit a 20 year habit. Make sure you stay sober at least a few months. My brain didn't go back to normal until the end of month 3. I think lots of people quit for a couple weeks or a month, but give up because they don't get the benefits of sobriety immediately

THC withdrawal fucks up your cortisol and this is a commonly observed effect. When I stopped, I also lost my ability to dream for weeks. THC does a lot of things to your brain chemistry. There are numerous articles, first-hand accounts, etc, for both of these symptoms.

Some people should not do anything, because they have no impulse control. They're addicted to dopamine, regardless what substance is wrung out from it. Thus why they do fry themselves, they chase the dragon no matter what the vehicle substance that grants it to them.
I haven't toked in over a decade. I know I'd enjoy it as much anyone would, I just don't. Some people need a buzz off something 24/7. I find that gay.

It definitely is contributing to you being undisciplined if you smoke all the time but it’s also just your choice to be undisciplined. I’ve found that smoking a hit or two off a one-hitter like once a week or month helps me think about my problems in novel ways that actually improves my life all around. Or it helps me remember not to take shit so seriously all the time. People don’t realize it’s a psychedelic and take it for granted. The set and setting are important. If you want to smoke here and there, go for a walk or sit and don’t really consume media or force anything. If you sell the world for your soul (like don’t even force yourself to know anything or think you need to think), your intuition will guide you to focus on what the real problems and answers are in your life. Psychedelics are teachers. They have conscious minds or whatever. If you treat them like whores, they will hang you out to dry.

I quit after smoking about a gram a week for 15 years. I didn't think it was that hard. Don't even bother with those gas station thc a bullshit pens they feel harsher on your lungs than burning weed. I only bother to smoke when I visit my parents and even then I don't care for it anymore. I miss nothing about it. Once you lose the habits of packing bowls and smoking everywhere you're good to go. I drink and use zyn but I'm going to quit both soon cause zyn makes my gums bleed. I never had withdrawals quitting anything and I've quit zyn before and i chain the shit out of them before i quit before. I've always lifted weights (I bench 3 plates so I lift heavy) and used to run so I'm sure that's part of why i detox faster than most and don't seem to have Side effects when i do. I ate a wendys triple and drank a pre workout before the doctor and my blood pressure was like 115/67. Non lifters will cope about it being gay but I'm almost positive a ton of water, protein and strenuous exercise a few times a week is the secret to being healthy. If you're gonna run, be able to hold a conversation and don't run more than 3 miles.

once you quit you can never go back to it. if you truly get a few years sober from weed and flush it all out of your system you will never be able to smoke casually in public again. two hits off even some low grade weed will make you go insane. you fucked up your brain chemistry permanently. if you try to smoke a little bit after you sober up it triggers your brain and you instantly get higher than your first time getting stoned. it's something "recall" it's a real thing. it's why heroin users usually OD right after they relapse. same with weed except... its just weed. but it will make you fucking retarded and you won't be able to smoke with your friends anymore after you sober up for a few years

speaking from personal experience. weed is now a once in a blue moon rare experience for me that i enjoy alone at home by myself

Yes. Been there done that. It will take about 2 weeks of irritable behavior, diarrhea, sweat, restlessnes, bad appetite and probably other annoyances I forgot before you start feeling normal-ish. You will probably stop enjoying some forms of entertainment as well. I sure did, movies, video games etc became extremely boring after quitting. The only time I experienced panic attacks was when I got way, way too high from edibles or ripping fingerhash out of a bong or something. This is not real.
I had almost no withdrawal symptoms other than the urge to get high during emotionally stressful situations. Weed becomes a crutch for regulating emotions. Maybe it was harder to sleep for a few nights, but nothing crazy.
Found that going for a brisk walk helps regulate emotions and I didn't need to smoke after that. Good luck OP.

I'm going through the same thing. It's not that hard to quit initially. It's hard to keep it going longterm. I usually am sober for a few months. Buy a small amount to celebrate something and then fall back into it for another year. Being sober all the time every day is just so fucking lame and boring. I don't know how people tolerate it.

Anyway, start smoking just enough to take the edge off, but not enough to actually get high. Do that with the remainder of weed you have. Every day you'll need less and less. By the time you run out you'll barely even notice. Cigarettes and liquor can help ease the transition too, but be careful about getting yourself addicted to those. Those a real addictions.

>I've never experienced it so it isn't real
" A Duke University study found that 95.5% of 496 adult marijuana smokers who tried to quit experienced at least one withdrawal symptom, with 43.1% experiencing two symptoms or more.2 The number of symptoms experienced by participants was significantly linked to how often and how much marijuana they smoked. "
I do not know why you are trying to argue against this. Do a single Google search for marijuana withdrawal, and you will see that heightened anxiety/panic attacks are a common symptom. Did marijuana fry your brain cells or something? This is not something I expect people to contest.

this is fucking retarded. Covid made me an alcoholic (under control now) almost daily drinking more than most people could handle without being hospitalised. I've smoked weed occasionally for 6. Sometimes more, sometimes left. I've been a daily stoner and once a year toker. NEVER has it caused any issue withdrawing other than about 3 days where it is harder to sleep, or being annoyed when you run out and can't get any. That's literally the extent of it.

Alcohol is way harder and more fucked up to withdraw from, nicotine even worse.

>Can anyone relate or share their experiences either way?
30 year smoker. Just quit. Again. 6 months off last year. 6 months on this year. 3 weeks in with no weed. Trick is, if you fall off the wagon...get back on.
Supplements help. D3+K2, magnesium glycinate, NAC, B1, Copper, Zinc, Tumeric/Ginger, a daily men's multi-vitamin
Eat a high protein diet, eggs, fresh meat.
Eliminate all HFCs, and fake sugar. Limited intake of cane sugar/honey.
Eliminate all processed foods
Eliminate all as many carbs as possible.
Eat more raw vegetables
Drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day ie 50 ounces per 100lbs. Don't over do this as you can throw off your potassium levels. Electrolytes are good to help. Bananas are too.
Sweat as much as possible and burn fat. THC is stored in your fat so you'll have to burn it off.
Intermittent fasting for 12-16 hours a day. Only eat during the same 8-10 hour window each day.
Remember that neurons that fire together grow together. There will be brain fog. Memory lapses(get a note pad so you don't forget shit) What you learned to do while high will have to be relearned.
I would test myself after a few weeks by trying it again but I started not liking how it felt and began enjoying sobriety again. Although this can lead to a relapse. But if that happens just quit cold turkey again. It gets easier to quit every time you try because you know what to expect.
I know I've left something out but this should get you started.
I've also quit alcohol, cigarettes(I use snus now because fuck nicotine is a hell of a drug)
The hardest part was breaking the habituation of smoking. Find something to do with your hands. Clear your room. Wash your dick. Reorganize your sock drawer. Whatever you've been putting off while stoned. Do that instead of smoking. The dopamine from accomplishment with replace the THC substitute eventually.

And most importantly remove as much stress as you can from your life.

That takes about a month to fully go away. I can't sleep for more than 6-7 hours now whereas when stoned I could sleep a solid 9 and never wake up. Melatonin can help but be very careful using it as it's a hormone. The smallest effective dose is best. Start with 1 mg and work your way up until you can relax enough to go to sleep.

Interestingly enough, the thing that finally got through to me was a sam hyde clip who just said plain and simple weed smokers are losers.
I thought getting a nice career would help me stop smoking, but it didnt take me log before I was getting high at lunch and going to the office, or getting high at home and wasting time.

I can understand how one thinks to train a dunk like that, and it's impressive, but how did he learn to scoot on the floor so quickly?
Also agreed on just tapering off with the rest of your supply. If you use a dry herb vaporizer you could make it last even longer. Eventually the desire fades. It also helps to do something else with your time! Talk to people, pick up a hobby, read a book, learn to do something you've always been interested in. Quitting is more difficult if you're just sitting there staring at a wall, thinking about how much more interesting the wall would be if you had drugs.

and you're not any less of a retarded faggot. i picked up so much great stuff from the dispensary today. they stay having sales 24/7 and 365. today was especially good. like 60% orf everything, mix and match 8ths for a half ounce @ $50. when i was a teen ir emember buying half ounces for 160. despite it being incredibly good. then eventually getting them at 130, 120 maybe 110 or 100 depending on the quality and how much they liked me.

i remember when vape carts were a new thing on the black market. people charging 50-60$ getting them now for half the price and the guarantee that it is what it claims to be and not artificial flavor and God knows what else.

so for about $160 i got a half ounce, a quarter of agent orange, it really does smell and taste like oranges because of the flavanoid / terpenes. its a sativa, i also got a quarter of daybreak delight, another sativa. its fantastic getting a quarter @ $25 each.. but instead of "regs" its 26+% THC medicinal grade organic stuff.

i also got a 2x 1 gram syringes of distillate, which is whats inside most vape carts, but instead of burning and inhaling it you can just eat it since its already "activated" or decarboxilated, where the carbon has been removed from the molecule, releasing the psychoactive benefits and effects. each are about 90% pure THC. one is indica, a strain called frosted motorbreath, the other is a sativa, banana mango. each having about 900mg of THC in each synringe, with 10mg being a pretty standard low / threshold dose.. 20 being good 50 being pretty dang strong and if you do 100 you're taking a really good nap.

i usually roll joints with the flour or soak it in 153 proof grain alcohol and make an infusion or tincture. the most bang for yoru buck considering an 8th of flower can have 1,000mg in it.

i also got a 1gram vape cart of Papaya Peach, an indica @ 90% THC, and 3 packs of gummies 100mg each, 10 pieces, 1 each of indica, sativa and hybrid. my stash is packed for the week.

This was my problem too. Once I got the daily routine down I could start smoking on the way to work and at lunch. I'd also drink a 16 oz beer. Alcohol still makes me crave smoking so I had to quit that too.
Also it didn't hurt that I had metabolic shutdown and felt like I was dying everyday from anxiety. Sam Hyde is right, there are many losers who smoke weed. I woke up one day and had to take a cold hard look in the mirror. And decided I didn't want to do it any more. If only it was that simple. God bless you on your journey. Probably going to do a few months off again in the fall. Wish I was free from this but at the same time it's like my only friend. Or like a crutch. I need to stop but I use it to smother emotions such as ANGER, SADNESS and even worse monsters like JEALOUSY, FEAR. It's been my sword and shield. Without it I'm good, I survive for months, but feel exposed without my bubble. I can relate to the guy who said: just wish it didnt have all these debuffs. i probably should be medicated instead of this but at the same time I'd rather smoke weel myself rather than be prescribed a pill. there's also the question of government-issued weed and how its probably laced with mind-control at worst and anti-masturbatory gluten at best.

Yes.
I'm 40 and I titrate up and down because I live basically in da woods and I care more about my privacy and life than drugs. But weed is fun.

Insomnia and bored aggravation were my biggest issues.

>You need a meticulous hobby or something to pick up whenever you get craving that will occupy your mind and hands and that you can do anytime (it needs to be something you don't get tired from so that you can do it repetitively and continuously).

>You need to clean up the space you smoked and start doing a new repetitive habit.

>Avoid the space you typically repetitively smoked in as much as possible.

>I used benadryl to sleep, it still wasn't comfortable. Your dreams and nightmares come flooding back and feel hyper emotional since you haven't had any in a long time. But that could of been a side effect of a Benadryl(I'd only take one, if knocks me the fuck out).

>a lost battle is not a lost war. Reduction is victory and every non use is a stepping stone to sobriety.
I usually quit for a month or two till i piss clean and start smoking again. I don't consider myself addicted because I just set it down as long as I need to till my body gets the full effect again.

I didn't start smoking weed till I was 26, idk if that matters because I already had basically foundational life habits.

vaporizing is not

high-potency THC is bad
low-THC strains balanced with other cannabinoids are not

do you see where this is going?

smoking whenever you feel like it, e.g., out of boredom, is bad
using it as a reward for good behavior/habits, or to wind down at the end of the day is not

28 year smoker here. I can relate, yes.
You need to have pauses in between smoking, otherwise this shit fries your brain and you can't get up anymore to do shit. Also the more potential your weed the more bad it is.
Weed isn't addictive like alcohol or the harder stuff, but it makes you addicted in another way.
I can quit for days/weeks to recover and this is no problem after a few days cold turkey, but if i get weed again i can't control my consumption. I NEED to smoke it, i can not smoke when there's weed around, and that's what it makes it dangerous, because if you don't do your regular pauses and control your consumption, you'll fry your brain and motivation.
tl;dr Keep a healthy balance between high and sober and best is to not smoke every day.
But i know that's not possible for smokers which consumed so long like us. This is more a warning to anons who want to try

the only debuff is lethargy that builds up in the system. Literally just smoke less, it's not fucking hard. Going completely cold turkey, you will have problems sleeping and be cranky for a few days (thats literally the only effect), so just smoke less. Have a little before you need to sleep, don't smoke during the day and ween yourself off it. It's not fucking hard, my god, you people are retarded.

Watched my friend smoke more and more weed through the years to the point even he started saying it was too much. He refused to say it had been a bad influence on his life, although at one point he did speculate that if he could travel back in time to set his younger self up for major success, he'd stop the weed smoking.
All said, he tried to quit in varying degrees and never could. He'd be increasingly miserable while saying he wasn't gonna smoke again for x weeks and then he'd scrounge up weed somehow anyway, smoke it, and then get paranoid and agitated while high.
He was fucked up from head to toe and died just a year ago, before he reached 40. Oh well, free country, he lived the life he wanted

Sleep it off if you can. Lots of sleep. Like try and sleep a lot for 3 days.
