another book i highly recommend on the topic.. goes into a very deep analysis on how media affects the working class and to a lesser extent middle class in the early 20th century..
also provides a deep portrait of the lives of british working class in that age, and the changes technology and media have had on the subcultures that exist in it and concerns of how distractions and cheap entertainment are dissolving interesting and authentic cultural institutions for a monocultural element that means nothing

Brave New World needs LOTS of Science Fiction. It's not even a dystopian world on purpose, but it's so bad writing, nobody read to the happy ending.

I'd say the modern world at a glance is a mixture of 80% Brave New World and 20% 1984. If you look very deeply at the core mechanics of it all though, it's 90% 1984.

This world fundamentally runs on suffering, not pleasure. Pleasure is the avoidance of suffering, and in ways -- the fruit of it. People suffer in the grind to obtain money to acquire the means of avoiding greater suffering.
