yees thats right city slicker, these nasty tics will get you and make it impossible to enjoy carne asada tacos from the newest el taco extreme champion that opened up on 417th street.
Stay away from the rural areas guys! These tics ruin your life and it only takes 1 bite to make it impossible to live normally again. The rural folks all wear shielding and have to wade through tall fields in 90% humidity with 120 pounds of additional gear just so they can cut the grass or drive to the store (driving takes 45 minutes to shop at target!)

Hopefully all the city slickers hear my warning...

Tucking your pants into your socks and pulling up your socks as high as you can

Light colored clothing

DEET bug repellent

the pliers is incorrect! it must have the thin tips, like in picture attached. Otherwise you will squish her belly and force her to regurgitate what she ate into your bloodstream, infecting you with Lyme. You need to grab only her beak!

The lighter is correct! i found that even if sprayed directly with Permethrin they don't die nor do they get discourage, but as soon as you put a bit of flame near them, their legs melt and they die.

Still not a bedridden vegetable

I hear different things from different people. Some say you have to turn them counter clock wise to get them out.
Others say you have to burn their but and they just unburrow themselves.
Some even say to just pull them out as with anything else in a quick motion. Which fucking method is correct?

Like prion disease, it's something we can't really do much about. Therefore it's best for public sanity that it isn't talked about constantly. Though the numbers of these things have been exploding in recent years.
Guess what though? There's worse stuff no one is talking about either. Ever hear of a little thing called malaria? Ever been stung by a mosquito? Well, lucky you, malaria carrying mosquitoes are steadily spreading every single year, and in a century there will be no place on earth where getting stung by a mosquito won't fuck you up forever.

I sleep outside often in the woods and i've never had issues with ticks, even during spring. As long as you remove the tick in less than 2 days you're not gonna get lyme, so checking your body a couple times per day is enough to avoid it. Besides there are easy tricks to keep them away anyway, you don't even need commercial repellents.

Possibly, but the problem isn't not being able to destroy contaminated meat. The problem is, you can drink the purified water that a perfectly healthy animal died next to 15 years ago, and 20 years later your brain melts and there's nothing we can do to stop it. As far as I know even if a prion infection was detected immediately, you'd still be a dead man walking.

It's annoying but you gotta be thorough with each check, otherwise it's pointless. Even if they're small, if they're attached to your skin you'll feel them easily with your fingers even if you can't see the area. Besides, here in Spain at least, only around 5~10% of ticks carry lyme, i don't know about other parts of the world though.

Ticks used to not be as much of a problem.
But now there are so many rats and other small animals around, there is a lot of waste and nature is being cut down, habitats destroyed so even more predators are lost.
Meanwhile large birds and their insect food sources die.
Flies and mosquitos are a similar pest, there used to not be too many of them, but now there are.
Rats and flies are a plague on humanity, brought forth by ignorance.
Getting bitten by ticks or harassed by insects is like punching yourself.
