All security should have layers you tard. Your bedroom (or some room) should be the final fallback position.

Ideally, you already have layers that deter thieves, then to keep the out, then to scare them off, etc so you don’t even have to engage. Landscaping and thorny plants to keep people away from windows, motion lights to scare them off. Then stronger doors, strike plates, real screws in hinges, window locks, maybe even security film in windows or metal grates to keep them out. Then an alarm possibly scare them off (along with alerting you). Then you camp a hallway or staircase with your rifle and dome them if they keep coming.

Not a comprehensive list by any means but you get the idea. These doors provide another layer of security. Extra time. Plus you don’t have the availability of guns in SA that we do.
