I live in Wisconsin, the cops give tickets if you don't wear a seatbelt, but it's OK to ride a motorcycle in shorts. Conceal carry requires a permit else you get arrested, but open carry is allowed, cops violate your 4th openly. Weather is as unstable as the capital city leftists, most people mind their own business. Bars are filled with the debaucherers, but are the last few places to meet people. No one seems happy and everyone has accepted that fact. Housing is expensive and landlords are usually nice about raping you.

All in all, it's one big paradoxical experience where I don't want to live here, but there's no where I'd rather be. I'm sick of the stupidity, but I'm rarely confronted by it.

That is the mark of modern life in America, they keep it just comfortable enough that trying to change it feels not quite worth it. You live every day wanting something different, but your bed is pretty comfortable at night. We're not free, but the government is usually benevolent so people act like you're overdramatic when you try to explain this fact to them. So we're an open air prison over here, we have the keys to let ourselves out and we don't use them because we're cowards. I'm a coward surrounded by slightly less cowardly people because I've realized this fact slightly before them. I'm the most unhappy of us all and living with myself is a full time job that I need to retire from soon and grow a pair and change the world for the better. America is not a place I would recommend coming to, not because it isn't great, but because you might get stuck here longer than you want and that would be regrettable.

The stereotype is true except Wisconsin people are too nice (repressed) to ever say it within earshot of an Illinoisan. I actually came here from Illinois just short of a decade ago. What I heard all the time was, "You're nothing like all the other people from Illinois!" Except I more or less am. The real contention is that Wisconsin people and Illinois people, by and large, are exactly the same except their environments are different. You treat road laws as options in the city, but up north people have expectations...so when they meet, they clash.

As a Wisconsinite now, I don't dislike Illinoisans and frankly you can't tell a difference when you cross the boarder out west where farm fields mash together.
