It could be worse. It makes it a lot easier to cope with that they at least went to a kid who was probably really excited to play with them.
Whoever it was got some good stuff: that huge Life on Mars set with the tubes, some Rock Raiders stuff, Harry Potter sets and a lot of City and System sets, just to name a few. And, woe, is me, all of my fuckin Bionicles, too.

My mom was the parent who built mine with me, and amusingly she's started getting into them herself in the last few years. She has that bigass Barad-dΓ»r set sitting on top of the piano back at home lol

Modern Lego isn't about intelligence or imagination, it's positioned itself as a "luxury toy" model-making kits with a relaxing building experience. Lego sets contain so many pieces now, even kids' sets, that taking them apart to build something new isn't really an option anymore.

I always did both. I'd usually disassemble finished sets after a while and just add all of the pieces to a big bin that I kept underneath my bed.
I kept the instructions around in case I'd want to rebuild them later, but generally I would just build a bunch of weird machine cities, spaceships and mechs from an amalgamation of every set I owned.

Quite a few, I like to build RC cars out of them, experimenting with different kind of transmissions, gearboxes, suspensions, shit like that. I don't have enough time and money to build real cars, it's just something to mess around. My kids have tons, I know I'm overcompensating since it was a rare treasure back in the 90s over here, but I don't care, it's something to do together.

Skill and imagination issue. When i was young, I once integrated all my lego into one big castle build. The collection itself was maybe 20% castle stuff.

Yes, some walls had city decals on them. And some spires were just stacked wheels. And half the knights had wild west guns and space helmets. And most of the attacking skeletons were actually starwars battle droids led by darth maul 'demons'.

These are the first ones I've had in a long while, I threw away a bunch of older kits years ago so if I ever get the whole "I'M A FUCKING MANCHILD FOR HAVING THESE THINGS" episode again I'm in no way whatsoever terrified of just bining the shit.

I've got a couple Great Wall of China sets coming in the mail and a couple signature mini fig samurai to put in the garden.

I've enjoyed it. I don't really give a shit if anyone thinks I'm a "manchild" for having them. And if worse comes to worst I'm not above throwing toys in the trash if I feel like I need to.
