as far as i can tell, a large % of the population has more or less given themselves over to be piloted either consciously or subconsciously by the different images, archetypes, ideologies they each subscribe to individually.

combine this with the literal programming of the population using media and social media and you end up with people acting and reacting, speaking and responding in ways that they have seen before, according to whatever image of themselves they want to project, combined with the way they were raised and their environment

especially people who have either been traumatized or who willingly make ethical compromises "to get ahead" (ie gain wealth or power in unethical ways by collaborating with other similar people) open themselves up to more outside influences, basically allowing themselves to be sockpuppets

eventually this leads to a state where the person is more or less being piloted by forces outside their control. their actions and reactions, words and thoughts are not their own.
