Naturally, you can't say this quiet part out loud, so the reflexive position they're left with is to be against *all* social programs. So, the left is stuck in this cycle of maintaining support by digging themselves deeper (by promising more gibs to minorities and importing more and more of them). The only way a "true" leftist platform in the US would enjoy broad success is if it accounted for that and had a staunchly anti-immigrant platform, which is never going to happen, due to the aforementioned overlap I described.
