It's what's referred to as a "killbox." You find a spot where you have an easy time killing the soldiers on the other side, and the enemy will keep reinforcing it no matter what. This means you can sit in one place, get comfortable, and just blow the shit out of the enemy army as long as you want.

Eventually they run out of soldiers and equipment. The stated goal of the Russians from 2022 was to destroy the Ukrainian army and all of their equipment. They did that long ago and have been destroying all of NATO's equipment for the last couple of years. That is why the US and Europe are not sending more and are arguing with each other about it.

Once your opponent is out of weapons and soldiers to defend territory you cruise on in with minimal trouble.
