Is Weightlifting Based or Cringe?
Do people here hit the gym and invest money on supplements/food or are there better sports?

Any sport, not limited to gym is based. More government spending should shift from healthcare towards sports facilities. Prevention instead of treatment is better for the population and the treasury. But we all know this will not happen lol.

I would say it depends on you if you make it based or cringe. If it brings you enjoyment then do it. It’s not really a sport either I would say it’s just a fun pastime and makes you look cool as fuck. All you got to do is train smart, be consistent, and get your gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Also train like a bodybuilder. The functional strength meme is a retarded myth and you can still move insane weight but will actually have a well rounded aesthetic physique. The powerlifter crowd always ends up with injuries over time with not much to show for it. If you want to be le tough badass martial arts are a better use of time.

Weightlifting is cringe if you're a gymcel who works out too frequently and dieting is cringe if you cut out carbohydrates. Your body is not a machine and most of you are not on steroids to be able to recover from workouts fast enough to do it every day. It is always a mistake to workout two days in a row.

>Weightlifting as a means of attaining a physique to impress others, either for the sake of the gaze of a desired sexual partner or in order to intimidate others
Exceedingly pathetic, and almost uniformly the result of brainwashing and conditioning by market forces
>Weightlifting as a means of escapism from personal traumas, depression, despair, or other present issues that are either difficult to approach or are otherwise difficult to resolve
Acceptable. It would be better if you could approach those matters directly and address them properly, but there are immeasurably worse forms of escapism out there.
>Weightlifting for physical maintenance when in a society or general environment where day-to-day physical activity is generally either uncommon, low-priority, or discouraged
Perfectly acceptable activity
>Weightlifting as a hobby/occupation wherein you are attempting to reach the peak of your abilities, either by merit of a developed community or simply by merit of passion
Excellent, and should be the default reasoning for weightlifting.

Any other reasoning is too fringe and specific to be categorized, and thus you're too weird for it to generally matter.

>invest money on supplements/food

even though daily caloric intake is higher than lazyfags, eating clean is absurdly cheap. it's the hyper-processed dreck that's expensive. for supplements, creatine's one of the only effective substances, costs fuckall. same with meal replacement powder, around £2/serving.

whatever you invest in this sport,a you get back 100x, bare minimum. one of the highest returns on earth, right up there with education.

it's mostly cringe. If you make it part of your personality or become obsessive about it. It should be something you do quickly and move on with your day, not something your life revolves around.

Yes you need to be physically fit and you should do strength training but unless you actually have aspirations to be a bodybuilder or professional athlete then you have better things to do with your time, so don't waste too much time in the gym or use the gym as escapism from other problems in life you don't want to face

Lifting will only improve your image by about 10% or so. You still need a good looking face, hair, money, social status, come from a good family, have a good personality and charisma.
Lifting kind of becomes a drag once you realize it's sort of pointless. Most people do it because they have nothing else to do and also get socialize with others a little bit. The gym is full of incels, average people and wagies.
60% of young males are now sexless and it's only increasing. Let's not even get into the mental health and loneliness epidemic that is being kept under the rug for years now.

Been lifting since I was around 15 years old.
Dropped about 12 inches off my waistline in the first 6 months.
I prob would have ate myself to death as a fat loser incel computer nerd in my parents basement if I didn't go to the gym.
Its good to have a varied routine. I box as well, swim, hike and do cardio on an exercise bike and elliptical (have some wear injuries from my time in the army so I cant long distance run anymore). If all you do is lift heavy things to get bigger you are limiting your potential. I'm retired Army Infantry and there is a huge difference between show muscles and farm boy muscles.
Its good to be natural though. Steroids, and HGH will ruin your body and turn you into a raging roidmonkey. The most I use is protein powder and a daily multivitamin combined with eating right.
Anyone saying gym is gay or women don't like muscled up fit guys are just coping for being lazy or jealous other people have the drive to stick to a routine and better themselves.
40 now and still in better shape than 95% of men half my age.

All types of training are good and you should do them all. Some martial arts or sports to be able to move your body in dynamic ways, some heavy lifts to build strength, some hypertrophy movements to build a body capable of strength, and calisthenics to stay limber and get stronger. Anyone calling any type of strength whether its functional, static, or technical cringe is gay and short sighted.

This. There's not enough physical labor to keep most men healthy and sane in modern society. Barbell training is the most time-efficient mode of strength training, which is necessary for resilience into old age.

>>510831592
I used to do this when I didn't have gym access, would approximate a deadlift with sandbags and rocks and do squats with a large friend across my shoulders. I still like training calisthenics but barbell training is more time-efficient for general strength gains.

>>510832840
Yes, but not as fast as you'd think and you'll regain it fairly fast (a lot faster than it took to build it) as long as you're not on PEDs. The guys who lose a lot of mass fast are usually on drugs or have some serious illness going on. The lack of pump from being sedentary makes you feel a lot smaller than the actual short- to medium-term tissue loss on a natty lifter would justify.
