99% of the people I've encountered peddling this line of thought with no interest in challenging it have been unhealthy sedentary shutins trying to cope with their own sloth by spinning it as a virtue; I've met a very tiny number of actual health-conscious people who bought into this and tried to keep their heartrates down with meditation and the like. Donald Trump also believes that exercise uses up your lifetime allotted heartbeats and he's not particularly known for his physical health.
>I'm sure you'll live as long as an Okinawan
My family members generally live into their late 90s and early 100s and all advocate some form of lifelong exercise. I'll be cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood with one of my grandfathers next weekend. A few weekends ago we dug a ditch and carried timbers and rocks together. He keeps very active both in terms of deliberate exercise and a generally physically active lifestyle.
>Okinawan who never stepped foot oot inside a gym.
Okinawan longevity has been linked to their physical activity; the dwindling of Okinawan longevity has been linked to a decline in physical activity. The automobile has been blamed for this change. Substituting deliberate exercise as a surrogate for pre-industrial lifestyle activities is a common remedy globally.
