I see some correlations with the speed of 1. economic advancement 2. rise of feminism. Poland had very fast growth in both after communism and has an abysmal birth rate now. The changes were also quick for east Asia afaik. There seems to be something about when women _suddenly_ gain the ability to sustain themselves without men, they just refuse to breed.
