I bought a house from 1937, former owners had a bee farm (abandoned - empty), bushes of various berries, several apple trees and loads of other trees.
It was an old way of life.

I cut basically all of it down, fruit trees suck ass dude. Wasps love them, and on top of it you got a shit ton of apples all year round. Thats cool if you live off grid and not too close to the fruit trees, but they suck dong to live next to.

I respect the soulless amerifat dream of a shitbox with no fruit trees. You should defo keep flowers though, they are based. I save a lot of flowers for the wild bumblebees in my yard.

It's not about the money. I get fruits from the backyard in my family house and they're just different from anything you will get at the store. They have a lot of seeds and are way sweeter. It's cool to have a connection with the earth. I don't know how old those trees are but they've been around for generations. Some relatives of mine I never had a chance to meet worked on them. I live in a relatively dense suburb and I tore up my front lawn and planted fruit trees and berries along with pollinator friendly plants. This summer I put in a pond and I nice goldfish and a raft of lettuce growing in it.
People always comment on how nice and creative my yard is and I sometimes ask what’s stopping them. Some people in my neighbourhood have an astroturf yard or just gravel for parking. It’s a travesty and not only looks like shit but is of no net value for any organisms or reducing runoff, heat island effect and so on. My property is like a little oasis and I love puttering around in it, having a beer and listening to music while checking out the babes that walk by.
