But the number of "yous" in this situation is huge and growing. Yes, there are still tens of millions of people in the US starting families. But there are also tens of millions of people who, just a few decades ago would be starting families, not starting families.
The scale of the phenomenon is too big to take in through the senses in your day to day life. You need statistical data, preferably good data, to get a sense of what's going on in a society of 350 million people.
