but the fact is Poland did want the war because it trusted the UK and France to save it the same way modern Ukrainians expect the US and NATO to save it in the event Russians ever figure out how to advance faster than a snail.

The problem in Poland's case was that the UK and France just straight up lied to Poland about starting an offensive into Germany to draw off their armies. Even though France explicitly promised to save Poland with an offensive into western Germany it just decided not to.

Instead the plan for the allies was to strangle Germany's economy with a blockade and wait for the population to overthrow Hitler. They didn't lift a finger to save the Poles.

It's a bit more convoluted. The French assumed that Poland can kind of cling on for two months after which they'd be ready to attack at least locally.

The French peacetime infantry divisions were built out of 3 brigades with some surpluses in some division level positions. When the mobilisation order would come in, this division would split into 3 and the 2 missing brigades in each would be filled with fresh reservists, if you wanted to go from peacetime to fully mobilised in the fastest and simplest way possible this was a perfect scheme, but if you needed to actually fight a war as you're doing it you're kind of lost. This was coupled with the French government being completely unwilling to compromise with the military and therefore restricting the number of professional troops in the army, which meant that at no point could the French afford to keep let's say a fully-prepared army corps to be used for some covering action as they're mobilising. So the role of Poland was to take the strike and hopefully survive until offensive relieves it. Whether it was possible to reform the front around the fallback lines around Warsaw is a question mark but the Soviet attack into Poland put an end to it so we won't know, but that was the plan that failed. It was also likely hostility would largely downscale after November because of winter, so if our military was able to setup these fallback positions it had a potential.

However in reality Germans avoided two front warfare and so the French fell back to what was known as the Dyle plan once it was obvious no matter what offensive would they conduct they won't save Poland in time(it's doubtful they'd be able to get beyond Moselle, let alone Rhein anyway).
