No one did that when pornhub was new either.
It only became a thing when social media echo chambers took over every part of the internet.
The ideal human experience is about having some similarities with your neighbors but still having enough disagreements that people can't be pushed to extremes by constant reinforcement.
"Social Media" by itself isn't even truly the issue, back when Facebook was primarily used to keep track of what parties people are going to and what events are going on, it was alright, not perfect as it broke the key rule of "don't put identifying info online" but it was alright.
The expansion of algorithms to push the situation we have now where the vast majority of time spent engaging with Facebook, tiktok, Instagram, etc is spent watching videos of people someone will never meet talking exactly about what they want to hear has just made it so people don't need to have personalities outside of their marketed to interest.
But really that is what it all comes down to, marketing abd commercialization of every aspect of life being bad for people, but that won't go away until laws are made to prevent advertisers from abusing every psychological tactic in the book.
