True we did have night workers but the first staff who could put through an order turned up at 2am. My fix was to run through things before picking it up and take the receipt, then let people know about it before picking it up on break. We don't let staff eat trash, at all. Because if we let them they'd give themselves food poisoning and sue us, most of them are fat not starving and will just eat as much as they possibly can at every given opportunity.

The thing is this shit is happening because corpos want to legally protect themselves from repercussion if peoples eat what is technically perished food, so on paper its justifiable, but in practice its fucking retarded and create situation like this. Got into problems for a similar issue back when I was working the graveyard shift in a convenience store and some poor dude would pass by and id give him the old pastries (I was forced to cook X quantity regardless of how many were eaten a day so id always end up with leftovers from the day before, at times it was like nearly half a trashbag worth of pastries ), but the he acted like a moron and behaved like the leftover pastries were a given and asked for some in the middle of the day, whence I got told off and couldnt give him anymore.

Then the place went to shit as we kept getting new retarded managers (worse one was some mexican whore who'd stay in her car up to 8am or even 9am (my shift is supposed to end at 7am) while I basically had to deal with morning rush hour alone, after a 8 hour long shift...) until I just quit on the spot as the new manager straight up laughed me off when I asked her to check the security camera to know which fuckwit snowblower had just buried my car under snow. The only reason the fucker didnt wreck my car was because the manager car was right beside it.

Staff pretend they've damaged things just so someone can eat it in the back room. So if we allow staff to eat trash, they immediately write perfectly good food off as trash.

And the damage this does to the operation is far greater than the dollar value of the food. I become unable to do a proper stock take, have to consistently order more than we need to avoid running out of things unexpectedly.

And staff who steal food will also lie about doing it, cover up what's missing, fake records, and this can lead to staff trying to water down, substitute, or contaminate things in an attempt to cover up theft.

The salami thief will start serving customers less salami, start faking stock levels so I order too much, blame other staff, try to steal good salami and replace it with bin salami.
