People only drink alone to live off memories of drinking at parties or with hot chicks, and people can't afford an apartment that can host a party or even going out to a bar. Good, I was like that growing up and it was retarded, I basically became an alcoholic before age 18, delayed my development in many ways, ended up failing out of college later on. Most of my friends I drank with became complete losers and I don't even talk to them anymore. In order for me to drink enough that I am mentally subdued to the point where I act or even feel significantly different, I'd have to be so drunk that I am physically damaged/can't stay awake or stand up etc. This is probably more common than you realise but it is by definition not the average experience. In my case the “cool parent” was a depressed divorced dad who was sort of beaten down and tired and just didn’t give a shit. He wasn’t hanging out with us or involved with girls lol, he just sat inside and ignored it, and we kept reasonably quiet so as not to be blatantly disrespectful.

Gen z here, so far this year I have drank alcohol twice. Once was in january where I drank almost an entire bottle of calvados during the sora no woto stream, I prefer it with tea over the traditional coffee mix. The second time was the 4th of july where I drank some cheap sake. I don't party, I don't have friends, but a nice drink alone is better than one in the company of others anyway.
