My advice is if you live in an apartment start off with a cat, once you get a home with decent amount of land get a dog. Small apartments can be hell for dogs, cats can be more adaptable indoor but I feel bad keeping animals in too much they need space, but I have enough land to let them roam a bit.

Cats are "low maintenance" which the childless roasties love, until it dies from obesity and boredom in 5 years.
I have a 13 yo cat, she's been outside all her life, still healthy, still fucking up rodents and stopping foxes from messing with my chickens. Cats can be very useful animals, unfortunately most end up getting locked inside smelly apartments where they just waste away and eat themselves to death.

Cats are relatively low maintenance animals that do not require you to walk or do any real kind of physical activity with them. Thus it allows for a person to just stay inside and be a shut in while also having some modicum of companionship. Also they’re an animal that allows people to seek validation and acceptance since they do not provide unconditional affection like dogs.

2 adult and 2 babies live here. I love them. Maybe I'm crazy, but I truly love cats. They are wonderful and interesting animals. Cats, dogs, fish and rats are my favorite pets. I get along with all of them and they all get along well. Depending on how you treat them, of course. Families on edge will just end up with the animals all attacking each other. If you have peace in the house, they will also live in peace. Animals feed off of human energy.

I had only one, she made me lose lots of night of sleep. Not satisfied, got another one and rescued another. Fuck my life, I regret everything. It's not that crazy people own cats, it's the cats that make them go insane.

i have 2 strays that kept showing up because I fed them (duh).
They are the most loyal pets that I have known my entire life. They wait for me like 2 dogs, they go on walks with me like dogs. Not once have they bitten, scratched, or hissed at me in 5+ years of having them. They were obviously buddies before coming to me.
Ones age is beginning to show.
I am afraid of whats coming but I am so grateful to have had them and I will rescue other abandonded lonely animals too, I will also try a dog.
