They started badly in the north in 2022 with a lot of mistakes, paid heavily for it in the first 8-12 weeks and there were two times in summer-autumn 2022 when Russia could not have just lost the entire war but literally 50% of their entire deployed force at the time but ever since the clusterfucks(caused by not enough men deployed and being overstretched) and Surovikin's masterful psy op evacuation at Kherson succeeded. We also don't have a single piece of AA online anywhere in the nation due to cost and lack of capabilities.

Reality is all peer to peer war will be drone and artillery focused with long periods of small key tactical offensive actions and entrenchments across heavily defended positions. Big arrow offensives will only happen when it becomes clear the opposition can no longer effectively resist on the ground and there are lots of maneuver capabilities.

The Russian army was 6x smaller than the Ukrainian one though and was also alone in the fight from day one.
